MAHENDERGARH, 22.03.24-Department of Nutrition Biology has successfully organized seven days High-End Workshop on “Assessment and management of hypovitaminosis D among adolescent girls” on 21st March, 2024. The workshop was funded by SERB-DST under Accelerate Vigyan Scheme wherein 25 participants across India had participated.

Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University and Prof. Sushma Yadav, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University motivated the students for their active participation in similar activities to enhance their knowledge and skills.


Prof. Sangwan highlighted the importance of the workshop wherein she emphasized the vitamin D relation to the non-communicable diseases and also enlightened the participants to inculcate the learned skills in their research areas. Prof. Kanti Prakash Sharma revealed that majority of the population is facing this silent pandemic and the disease can be managed by inclusion of vitamin D enriched foods.

Dr. Anita Kumari, Event organizer provided insights related to series of lectures organized from renowned expert scientists from Central University Mizoram, University of Delhi, IARI, New Delhi, Shri KNAU, Rajasthan, GJUS&T, Hissar. Hands on training on various aspects like anthropometric measurements, estimation of vitamin D levels by using ELISA technique, calcium estimation, CBC profiling, development of vitamin D enriched functional food products, its nutrient profiling, sensory evaluation, bioinformatic training such as sequence retrieval, searching of homology in sequence using BLAST etc. was also imparted to the enrolled participants.

The organizing secretary of the programme Dr. Ashwani Kumar proposed vote of thanks and appreciated the efforts of the Programme Convenor, and thanked everyone for being a part of this event. At last, the certificates were distributed to all the participants. Dr. Umesh Kumar, Dr. Tejpal Dhewa, and Dr. Savita Budhwar, and students of various disciplines have graced the event
