SHIMLA -23rd March, 2024-While presiding over the closing ceremony of the State level Nalwari festival in Bilaspur today, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that Nalwari was a traditional festival of the State which had also become famous due to ‘Chhinj’ (wrestling bouts) and its prominence since ages.

The Governor said that Himachal Pradesh was not only known as the land of Gods but also the nurturer of high culture. The Nalwari fair not only depicts rich art, culture and environment of this district but also the simple and colourful lifestyle of the people.

While congratulating the organizing committee, Shri Shukla said that fairs and festivals hold an important place in the daily life of the people of Bilaspur district. The wrestling competition had special importance among other activities organized during the Nalwari fair. He said that over time, a lot of changes had been witnessed in the fair as it had turned more commercial by providing an adequate platform to businessmen of the neighbouring states.

The Governor appealed to every voter to use their franchise in the coming Lok Sabha Election to contribute in strengthening the democratic system of the nation.

He also witnessed a bout of traditional ‘Chinj’ on the occasion.

After distributing prizes to the winners of the wrestling bouts, the Governor announced the closing of the festival.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Chahal welcomed the Governor and detailed about various activities organised during the historical Nalwar Fair.
