CHANDIGARH, 08.07.25-Former Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Councillor Shakti Prakash Devshali has written a letter to Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria and requested to fill all the vacant posts in Chandigarh Transport Department. In a letter to the Administrator, he informed that the post of Additional Secretary is vacant since 2019. The post of Assistant Secretary is vacant since June 2023 while the post of Senior Assistant is vacant since December 2021. One post of Motor Vehicle Inspector is vacant since October 2024 while the post of Driver is vacant since March 2023 and the post of Multi Tasking Staff is vacant since June 2024. Due to these vacant posts, the orders of STA are not being followed properly in Chandigarh.

Devshali said that many illegal motorized rickshaws are plying on the city roads which are not only causing accidents but have also become a major source of pollution. Illegal buses are plying from various parts of the city to various destinations causing huge financial losses to the Chandigarh Administration. Many open areas near residential and commercial areas of the city are being illegally used as parking lots by these illegal bus operators causing a lot of inconvenience to the nearby residents. These illegal buses are causing accidents and even a person died in a fatal accident a few days ago.

Devshali said that there is only one Motor Vehicle Inspector in the department; therefore residents are suffering a lot for passing of their vehicles and other MVI related official works. He requested the Administrator to fill all the vacant posts in the Transport Department Chandigarh at the earliest for the convenience of the general public and smooth functioning of the Transport Department.
