Sanitation committee reviews citywide cleanliness and Waste Management efforts
Chandigarh, July 9:- A meeting of the Sanitation Committee, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was held today under the chairmanship of Sh. Manoj Sonkar. The meeting was attended by committee members Smt. Anju Katyal, Smt. Nirmala Devi, Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, Sh. Lakbir Singh and Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Inderdeep Kaur.
The committee held detailed discussions on sanitation-related issues across all three zones of the city. Special focus was given to areas with poor response to the Door-to-Door Waste Collection initiative. Members emphasized the need to enhance the efficiency and coverage of this service to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for all residents.
The committee also proposed stricter enforcement measures, including an increase in littering challans for dumping garbage in open spaces. It was strongly recommended that waste segregation at the source be further strengthened through public awareness and monitoring mechanisms.
Committee Chairman Sh. Manoj Sonkar urged the sanitation wing to intensify efforts and work closely with residents to achieve better results in maintaining city hygiene.

MC Chandigarh organises Health & Hygiene awareness programme for SHGs under Swachh Bharat Mission
Chandigarh, July 9:-In line with the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a Health and Hygiene Awareness Programme today at the City Livelihood Centre, Sector 25, Chandigarh.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the School of Public Health Dispensary, PGIMER and the City Livelihood Centre.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitize the community on essential health and hygiene practices as part of the ongoing Swachhata initiatives in the city.
Key highlights of the programme included:
* Participation of 80-100 members from City Level Federations (CLFs) and Area Level Federations (ALFs), who enthusiastically took part in the awareness activities.
* An impactful lecture by experts from the School of Public Health, PGIMER, emphasizing the importance of hygiene in daily life and disease prevention.
* A live demonstration on proper handwashing techniques and adoption of hygienic practices.
* Awareness session for 40-50 visiting patients at the centre, who were sensitized on daily hygiene and cleanliness habits.
