Chandigarh, October 21:- In anticipation of the Diwali Festival-2025, the Fire and Rescue Services of the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh implemented a meticulously planned safety and emergency response strategy to ensure the safety and well-being of all city residents during the festive celebrations.
Key Safety Arrangements Undertaken:
City-Wide Mobilization Plan: Chandigarh was divided into seven strategic Fire Zones, each overseen by a Station Fire Officer. This enabled swift and effective coverage across all sectors.
Strategic Deployment of Fire Vehicles: Fire tenders were deployed at high-footfall and vulnerable areas including Patel Market (Sector-15), Plaza (Sector-17), Sadar/Palika Bazar (Sector-19), Aroma Light Point covering Shastri Market (Sector-22), Grain Market (Sector-26), and Main Bazar (Manimajra).
Deployment at Cracker Sale Sites: Fire vehicles were stationed at 12 cracker sale sites designated by the District Magistrate, UT Chandigarh, to ensure safety and rapid response if needed.
Station Readiness: Fire vehicles remained on standby at all designated fire stations to address emergency situations promptly.
Staff Availability: All operational leaves were restricted from October 19 to October 21, 2025, ensuring full deployment of fire personnel during the festival.
Staff Reassignment: Fire staff posted in various MCC branches were reassigned under Station Fire Officers to strengthen field-level response.
Real-time Coordination: A dedicated WhatsApp group was established for seamless coordination and communication among officers and field staff.
Equipment & First-Aid Preparedness: All fire vehicles underwent thorough serviceability checks, and first-aid kits were fully refilled to provide immediate medical support if needed.
Water Source Inspections: The Engineering Wing, MCC, conducted inspections of all water filling points to ensure uninterrupted water supply during firefighting operations.
High Alert Status: All officers and officials were kept on high alert for immediate response to any fire-related incidents.
Emergency Response During Diwali Festival-2025:
On October 20, 2025, the Fire & Rescue Services MCC responded to 18 emergency calls, including one bogus call. Most incidents involved minor fires in garbage heaps, dry grass, and waste materials. Thanks to prompt action:
No loss of life or major injuries was reported.
Property damage was minimal and localized.
Average response time of firefighting teams was approximately 5 to 6 minutes, reflecting high efficiency and preparedness.
This year saw a notable decline in fire-related incidents, with only 17 genuine calls compared to 21 in 2023 and 20 in 2024. This positive trend is attributed to extensive fire safety awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives led by the Fire Department, MCC.
The Fire and Rescue Services of MCC remain steadfast in their commitment to public safety and continue to urge citizens to follow safety protocols during all festivals. The Department appreciates the cooperation of residents and stakeholders, which played a vital role in ensuring a safe and joyous Diwali celebration across the city.
