CHANDIGARH, 20.03.26-, March 20th, 2026: Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh, hosted the annual prize distribution ceremony today. The college honoured numerous meritorious students for their excellence in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities.
A total of 1062 awards were conferred. In academics, 17 students were awarded the Roll of Honour and 337 received Certificates of Merit. In extra-curricular activities, 20 students received Roll of Honour, 62 were awarded College Colours, 39 received Certificates of Merit, and 237 were given Certificates of Distinction. In sports, 51 students received Roll of Honour, 9 were awarded College Colours, 115 received Certificates of Merit, and 175 were conferred Certificates of Distinction.
Faculty members were also honoured during the ceremony. Seven faculty members were awarded for completing their PhD degrees during the session 2025–26, and as part of the Research Incentive Scheme (2025–28), 15 faculty members across disciplines were awarded monetary incentives in recognition of their research output and academic contributions.
Chief Guest Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chief Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Union Territory, Chandigarh, congratulated the students for their outstanding achievements and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence. "GGDSD College is a hub of excellence, with highly rated teachers and abundant talent in academics, sports, and extracurriculars. Your character defines your thoughts, words, and deeds - it's independent of external validation. Toppers strive for more, driven by challenges and success,” stated Shri Rajesh Prasad.
Ms Vaishali Sharma, the President of the college, appreciated the awardees' efforts and urged students to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, and service while striving for excellence in their chosen fields.
The Principal of the college, Dr Ajay Sharma, read the annual report for the session 2025-26. Dr Sharma proudly mentioned that the college secured 70th rank in NIRF and 1st rank in Northern India (excluding Delhi NCR) by Outlook, India Today, and The Week, among other noteworthy achievements. Additionally, it won the Overall Runners-up Trophy at the Panjab University Youth and Heritage Festival and the Men's and Women's Overall Trophies at the Panjab University Sports Championships. The Institution Innovation Council of the college received a 4-star rating from the Ministry of Education for the third consecutive year for fostering innovation and start-up culture on campus. Dr Sharma further informed that the college received Rs 5 crore under the PM-USHA Scheme (formerly RUSA) for the development of infrastructure.
The college's dedication to academic excellence has earned it reaccreditation with an A+ grade from NAAC and "College with Potential for Excellence" status. The college's thriving research culture is evident in the nearly 100 faculty members who have published books and research papers, and the eight who have earned doctorates. The college currently offers a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, diploma, certificate, and add-on programs. It has successfully implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, incorporating multidisciplinary learning and skill development. Student engagement remains a strong focus of the institution. With around 40 clubs and associations, the college organised nearly 250 academic, cultural, and student-led events during the year, including TEDx, Model United Nations, and Virasat, Dr Sharma added.
