New water pipeline to end leakages, improve Water Supply in Milk Colony

Chandigarh, May 13:- In a major step towards strengthening civic infrastructure and improving essential public services, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today organized the foundation stone laying ceremony for the work of providing and laying a new water supply pipeline in Milk Colony, Dhanas near the park area.

The foundation stone for the project was laid by Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi in the presence of Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu, Former Senior Deputy Mayor and Area Councillor, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, senior officers of the Municipal Corporation and local residents.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh remains committed to upgrading basic civic infrastructure and ensuring reliable public services for citizens across the city. He stated that the existing old C.I. water supply pipeline in the area had been facing frequent leakages for several years, resulting in water wastage and repeated damage to roads, causing inconvenience to residents.

The Mayor said that keeping in view the long-pending demand of residents, the Corporation has initiated the project for laying a new D.I. water supply pipeline to ensure smooth, efficient and uninterrupted water supply in the locality. He added that the civic body is continuously working towards improving underground infrastructure to provide better living conditions to citizens.

Former Senior Deputy Mayor and Area Councillor Sh. Kuljeet Singh Sandhu appreciated the initiative taken by the Municipal Corporation and said that this is the first major water supply project in the ward after a long time. He said the project would bring significant relief to residents of Milk Colony, Dhanas and further strengthen the basic infrastructure of the area.

Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora informed that the existing pipeline was nearly 25 years old and had become increasingly difficult to repair because of its deteriorated condition. He stated that the new project, estimated to cost around Rs. 18 lakh, will help curb water leakages, prevent recurring road damage and improve the overall efficiency of water distribution in the locality. He assured that the work would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Local residents welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh for addressing their long-standing concerns related to water supply problems in the area.

Joint Commissioner cracks down on parking irregularities across Chandigarh

MCC tightens monitoring of paid parking sites to ensure transparency and better public convenience

Chandigarh, May 13:- In a significant move aimed at strengthening the management and monitoring of paid parking sites across the city, a comprehensive review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Inder Jeet, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineers (Roads), concerned Sub Divisional Engineers and Junior Engineers responsible for the functioning and supervision of various paid parking sites operating under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

During the meeting, a detailed review of parking operations, revenue collection, deployment of parking attendants and overall site management was undertaken. Various directions were issued to ensure transparency, accountability and smooth functioning of paid parking sites across the city.

Dr. Inder Jeet directed all concerned Junior Engineers to submit daily cash collection reports of each paid parking site to the Parking Branch of MCC on a regular basis. He further instructed the officials to maintain complete details of all parking attendants, including their place of posting, and physically verify their deployment at the respective sites.

Emphasizing the need to prevent revenue leakage, the Joint Commissioner directed officers to conduct regular inspections and ensure that no vehicle enters any paid parking site without payment of the prescribed parking fee. The concerned SDEs and JEs were also instructed to immediately report any irregularities noticed during inspections.

To improve efficiency and optimize parking operations, the Executive Engineers of Road Divisions No. 1, 2 and 3 were directed to identify parking sites generating low revenue and submit detailed reports so that appropriate decisions regarding continuation or discontinuation of such sites could be taken.

Special attention was given to the parking sites at Sector-34 Piccadilly Backside, Piccadilly Right Side and Sector-43, Chandigarh, where the concerned officers were asked to submit one-month day-wise revenue records for detailed assessment and monitoring.

The meeting also discussed traffic management and parking arrangements near Elante Mall. To improve traffic movement and streamline parking operations at the site, the Executive Engineer of Road Division No. 2 was directed to arrange barricading wherever required. It was further decided that a request would be sent to Bank of Baroda for resolving battery-related issues in the POS machines installed at the Elante Mall parking site to facilitate smooth digital transactions for the public.

Dr. Inder Jeet emphasized that strict monitoring, transparency and effective management of paid parking sites are essential for improving public convenience as well as ensuring proper revenue collection for the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. He reiterated that all officers must maintain regular supervision and ensure compliance with the directions issued during the meeting.

Joint Commissioners review electoral roll verification drive in Chandigarh

BLOs, BLAs directed to ensure accurate and error-free voter list management

Chandigarh, May 13:- To strengthen the electoral verification process and ensure accuracy in voter list management, separate review meetings regarding electoral roll verification and coordination among Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) were held today under the chairmanship of Dr. Himanshu Gupta and Dr. Inder Jeet, Joint Commissioners cum- AERO-3 and AERO-6 receptively.

The meetings were attended by Election Supervisors, BLO Supervisors and officials of the concerned AERO staff.

During the meetings, detailed discussions were held on various aspects related to electoral roll verification, including mapping and inclusion of eligible voters, coordination between BLOs and BLAs and maintaining transparency and accuracy in the voter list management process.

The chairing officers emphasized the importance of timely verification, effective field-level coordination and seamless communication among all stakeholders to ensure smooth and error-free electoral administration. They highlighted that accurate and updated electoral rolls are vital for strengthening the democratic process and ensuring maximum voter participation.

All Booth Level Officers were directed to remain in close coordination with their respective Booth Level Agents and ensure prompt resolution of discrepancies related to electoral rolls. Necessary instructions were also issued regarding effective implementation of the ongoing verification drive and strengthening monitoring mechanisms at the ground level.

The officers further stressed the need for dedicated and sincere efforts to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls and that the voter database remains updated, transparent and error-free.

Reiterating the commitment towards free, fair and transparent electoral administration, the officers called upon all field officials to work in coordination and complete the verification process within the prescribed timelines while maintaining utmost accuracy and accountability.

Appreciation letters were also handed over to enumerators, who completed their assignments before stipulated time frame.
