Chandigarh, June 18: Punjab Lit Foundation, in collaboration with T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh, organised an awareness programme titled “Mothers Against Drugs” to promote drug-free lifestyles and strengthen family-based prevention against substance abuse.
The programme featured two interactive sessions. Dr. Ruby Ahuja, Consultant Psychologist, addressed mothers on recognising early warning signs of drug abuse and fostering a supportive home environment.
Ms. Anissha Aggarwal Handa, Counselling Psychologist, conducted a session for children and young participants on “How Not to Get Addicted,” focusing on peer pressure, informed decision-making, and healthy life choices.
The sessions encouraged active participation and meaningful interaction with the resource persons. Mothers discussed issues related to prevention and family support, while children engaged in conversations on resisting negative influences and building positive habits.
Ms. Sanna Kaushal Gupta and Mr. Khushwant Singh of Punjab Lit Foundation, co-organisers of the programme, highlighted the importance of early awareness and community involvement in addressing the challenge of substance abuse. They emphasised that empowering both parents and children through education and dialogue is essential for building a drug-free society.
Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian, stated that libraries can serve as important community spaces for awareness, learning, and discussions on social issues affecting families and young people.
Organised under the guidance of Mrs. Neelam Bansal, Library Incharge, the programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from mothers, children, and community members, reinforcing the message that informed families and empowered youth are key to preventing drug abuse.
