Chandigarh, June 20: T.S. Central State Library, Sector 17, Chandigarh, celebrated National Reading Day and International Yoga Day with a series of enriching activities for children aged 7–14 years. The programme was organised by Dr. Neeza Singh, Librarian, under the patronage of Mrs. Neelam Bansal, Library Incharge.
The day commenced with a special “Yoga for Children” session conducted by renowned yoga instructor Mr. Raman Sharma. Children enthusiastically participated in various yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques designed to improve physical fitness, concentration, and emotional well-being. Mr. Sharma highlighted the importance of yoga in daily life and encouraged children to adopt healthy habits from an early age.
Following the yoga session, a Reading Party was conducted by Dr. Neeza Singh to celebrate National Reading Day. The primary focus of the activity was silent reading, during which children spent dedicated time reading books of their choice in a calm and engaging environment. The session was followed by interactive book discussions where participants shared their thoughts, favourite books, and reading experiences.
Adding a creative element to the programme, Miss Jasnameh, a 17-year-old storyteller, conducted an engaging storytelling session that captivated the young audience and inspired them to explore more books.
As a special initiative to encourage sustained reading habits, all children who participated in the Reading Party were inducted into “Reading Buddies,” the Library’s Book Club for Children. The club aims to create a vibrant community of young readers through regular reading sessions, book discussions, storytelling programmes, and other literary activities that foster a lifelong love for books and learning.
