Mayor Saurabh Joshi leads 'Swachhata Se Swagat' Drive; Over 800 MT waste cleared in two days across Chandigarh
Chandigarh, July 15:- In a major push to strengthen the city's cleanliness campaign, city Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today led the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' special sanitation drive at various locations across Chandigarh and reviewed the progress of the ongoing deep-cleaning operations being carried out by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
The Mayor inspected sanitation works at different sites and directed field teams to maintain the momentum of the city-wide campaign. He informed that nearly 78 metric tonnes of mixed waste has been removed from Khajeri and Sector 52 alone. In addition, around 400 metric tonnes of waste lying on reserve and open lands belonging to the Chandigarh Administration was cleared today. He further stated that the Municipal Corporation had removed nearly 410 metric tonnes of mixed waste and Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste from open spaces across the city yesterday, taking the total waste cleared in the last two days to over 800 metric tonnes.
The Mayor said that the intensive drive is aimed at restoring cleanliness in neglected areas, beautifying public spaces and ensuring a cleaner environment for citizens. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of sanitation workers, engineers and field staff who have been working relentlessly to achieve the objectives of the campaign.
As part of the special drive, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, Joint Commissioners, Medical Officer of Health and other senior officers carried out extensive field inspections across different parts of the city to closely monitor the progress of sanitation works.
The officers reviewed deep-cleaning operations, pruning of trees, cleaning of road berms, desilting and cleaning of road gullies, lifting of mixed waste from open areas and green spaces, and removal of Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste from public places. Necessary directions were issued to the concerned officials to ensure timely completion of the works while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
The Mayor reiterated that the 'Swachhata Se Swagat' campaign will continue in all sectors and villages of Chandigarh with regular monitoring by senior officers. He appealed to residents to actively participate in the cleanliness movement by avoiding littering, disposing of waste responsibly and cooperating with the Municipal Corporation in keeping public places clean and hygienic.
He expressed confidence that with the collective efforts of citizens and the civic body, Chandigarh will continue to set new benchmarks in urban cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Joint Commissioners review progress of special intensive revision of electoral roll with political parties and area Councillors
Chandigarh, July 15: To review the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll, separate meetings were held today under the chairmanship of Dr. Himanshu Gupta, PCS, Joint Commissioner (MCC)-cum-Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO)-03, U.T., Chandigarh, and the Joint Commissioner Dr. Inderjeet (MCC)-cum-Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO)-06, U.T., Chandigarh, with representatives of recognized political parties and Area Councillors.
During the meetings, the progress of the revision process was reviewed in detail, with emphasis on ensuring the accuracy, transparency and completeness of the Electoral Roll. It was informed that the digitization of Enumeration Forms by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) has been completed successfully and that the Draft Electoral Roll will be published by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, on July 21, 2026, as per the schedule prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
The officers informed the participants that, following the publication of the Draft Electoral Roll, notices will be issued to non-mapped electors, wherever required, to facilitate the enrolment of their names. It was also shared that the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) List will be uploaded on the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, to ensure greater transparency in the revision process. The verification and timely disposal of ASDD entries were also discussed to maintain a clean and updated electoral database.
Representatives of all recognized political parties were provided with the list of supporting documents required for the enrolment of non-mapped electors so that all eligible voters can complete the enrolment process within the stipulated timeline.
The Joint Commissioners emphasized the importance of close coordination between Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for effective field verification. They appealed to all recognized political parties and Area Councillors to extend their full cooperation in ensuring the successful, transparent and timely completion of the Special Intensive Revision in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
Representatives of the recognized political parties assured the Chair of their full cooperation and support for the smooth and successful completion of the Special Intensive Revision of the Electoral Roll. The Election Administration reiterated its commitment to conducting a fair, transparent and inclusive electoral revision process through close coordination with all stakeholders.
