Chandigarh, July 18:- In a significant step towards promoting organised street vending and safeguarding the livelihood of hawkers, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh today allotted 498 vacant vending sites to 498 eligible street vendors through a transparent Draw of Lots held by its Vendor Cell across various notified vending zones in the city.

The draw was conducted in a fair, impartial and transparent manner in the presence of Joint Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Gupta, Councillor and Observer Taruna Mehta, Town Vending Committee (TVC) members Chanchal Rani and Sabra, besides senior officials of the Vendor Cell, ensuring complete transparency throughout the process.

The allotment was carried out strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, the Chandigarh Street Vendors Rules and Scheme, and the directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court.

The Municipal Corporation stated that the initiative will provide eligible vendors with secure and designated vending spaces, enabling them to earn their livelihood with dignity while ensuring systematic and regulated vending across the city. It will also help improve urban management, reduce unauthorized vending and promote a cleaner, more organised public environment.
Reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of street vendors, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh said it will continue to implement the Street Vendors Act in letter and spirit, ensuring a fair, transparent and inclusive vending ecosystem for all eligible beneficiaries.
