Chandigarh, 17 July: Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi for inaugurating the redeveloped Kalka and Narwana railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He said that 34 railway stations across Haryana are being upgraded with modern passenger amenities and infrastructure under the scheme at a total cost of Rs 1,149 crore. He further said that the redevelopment of Mandi Dabwali, Hodal, and Jind railway stations has already been completed, and these stations have been transformed into ‘Amrit Railway Stations’.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering as the chief guest at a function organized at Kalka Railway Station today.
On this occasion, a live telecast of Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s programme from Jalandhar, Punjab, was screened at the venue. During the event, the Prime Minister dedicated 75 redeveloped ‘Amrit Railway Stations’ across the country to the nation through video conferencing, including the redeveloped Kalka and Narwana railway stations in Haryana.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that it is a matter of immense pride and joy for the people of Haryana that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has inaugurated two redeveloped railway stations in the state under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He said these stations will not only enhance passenger convenience but also serve as gateways to Haryana’s culture, tourism, and local economy.
The Chief Minister described today as a historic day for the state saying that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has gifted Haryana nine major development projects worth nearly Rs 15,000 crore, including the country’s first hydrogen-powered train. He said that there was a time when railway projects remained pending in files for years and railway stations were viewed merely as transit points. Today, however, railway stations are being transformed into centres of the nation’s evolving identity, cultural heritage, and economic growth, with Haryana emerging as a shining example of this transformation. Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that the railway budget for Haryana has increased from Rs 315 crore in 2014 to Rs 3,566 crore in 2026–27, reflecting the Prime Minister’s strong commitment to the state’s development.
The Chief Minister said that railway projects worth around Rs 12,000 crore are currently being implemented in Haryana. These projects are creating new opportunities in industry, trade, tourism, employment, and overall economic development. He added that Haryana has achieved 100 per cent electrification of its entire 1,574-km railway network, providing a strong foundation for faster, safer, and more modern rail transportation while also contributing to environmental sustainability.
Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that India is not only expanding its railway network but is also building the railways of the future. At present, eight Vande Bharat Express trains and two Amrit Bharat Express trains are serving Haryana. He said that while the Vande Bharat Express reflects the speed and progress of New India, the Amrit Bharat Express is dedicated to providing affordable and comfortable travel to the common man.
Highlighting major railway infrastructure developments, he said that the Rohtak–Meham–Hansi and Sonipat–Jind railway lines have been constructed at costs of Rs 844 crore and Rs 713 crore, respectively. He also referred to the country’s first elevated railway line in Rohtak and the modern elevated railway track in Kurukshetra. These projects, he said, reflect a forward-looking vision of development that reduces travel time, eases traffic congestion, and gives fresh momentum to urban growth.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has envisioned the railways not only as a means of passenger transport but also as a key driver of the nation’s economic growth. He stated that the operationalization of the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal and the Patli–Manesar freight section, the establishment of a rail coach repair factory at Barhi in Sonipat, and the expansion of modern freight transport infrastructure are significant steps towards developing Haryana as a major logistics hub. He said these initiatives will help reduce transportation costs for industries, promote exports, and generate new employment opportunities for the youth, thereby contributing to the state's economic progress.
Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that a safe and efficient railway network is a hallmark of a developed nation. He stated that over the past 12 years, 33 railway overbridges and 139 railways under bridges have been constructed in Haryana, while 123 unmanned railway crossings have been eliminated. These measures have enhanced public safety, reduced travel time, and reflect the commitment of the government towards modern and responsive governance.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana’s rail network is expanding at a rapid pace. He highlighted the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor as a transformative project that will reshape the state’s industrial and economic landscape. Connecting Palwal, Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda, the corridor is expected to emerge as a major hub for industry, investment, and employment in the coming years.
He further said that projects such as the Karnal–Yamunanagar and Jind–Hansi railway lines are also being developed with future requirements in mind. The double-engine government, he added, is creating world-class infrastructure not only for the present generation but also for the generations to come.
The Chief Minister said that the state government is working with full commitment to realize Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ through the ‘Haryana Vision Document 2047’. He said the government’s objective is not limited to developing roads and railways, but to build a Haryana where farmers are prosperous, youth are self-reliant, industries are globally competitive, women are safe and empowered, and every citizen has equal opportunities for growth and development.
Appealing to the public, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said that railway stations are not merely government assets but a shared heritage of all citizens. He urged people to contribute towards maintaining their cleanliness, security, and dignity. He said that a nation reaches new heights only when citizens and the government work together in partnership.
Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the redeveloped Kalka railway station and reviewed the passenger amenities and other facilities available at the station.

Target to recover 56 crore rupees in pending electricity-theft penalties from consumers within 45 days
45-day special campaign launched against power theft: DGP Navdeep Singh Virk
Special campaign begins across all 22 districts under the leadership of DGP Navdeep Singh Virk
Chandigarh, July 17: Taking serious note of the outstanding penalty amount pending against electricity consumers in Haryana, Director General of Police, Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, Navdeep Singh Virk, has directed all Station House Officers (SHOs) to conduct a thorough scrutiny of police station records and case diaries and immediately prepare a list of all electricity theft cases where penalties of one lakh rupees or more remain unpaid.
The DGP has instructed all SHOs to personally monitor the recovery process and initiate immediate action to realise the pending penalties. He has also ordered the launch of a 45-day special campaign aimed at recovering the 56 crore rupees in outstanding penalty revenue pending across the state.
He further directed that a weekly progress report, along with details of the penalty amount recovered, must be submitted every Monday to the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Enforcement Headquarters, Shakti Bhawan.
The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau operates round the clock through its 22 police stations across the state. Its core responsibilities include curbing electricity theft, preventing water theft, checking illegal mining, controlling the sale of illicit liquor, and monitoring the development of unauthorised colonies.
The Bureau maintains that electricity theft is a social offence. Since electricity generation depends primarily on natural resources such as water and coal, power theft amounts to the misuse of finite natural resources. Controlling electricity theft, therefore, is not only a law enforcement priority but also part of the Bureau's broader social responsibility.
At a time of growing concerns over climate change, preventing power theft and promoting energy conservation are essential to protecting the environment. In line with this objective, the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau regularly conducts public awareness campaigns under the guidance of DGP Navdeep Singh Virk to encourage responsible energy use and strengthen public participation in preventing electricity theft.
