Chandigarh, August 2 - The "Nashmukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan" was organized at Kurukshetra University on Sunday. On this historic occasion, Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh joined thousands of youth at the event and participated in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's live virtual address. On this occasion, the Governor administered all the participants the pledge to build a drug-free India.
Addressing youth across the country through virtual mode, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon them to actively contribute towards building a drug-free India. His address was enthusiastically heard by more than 2,500 students, teachers and other participants present in the auditorium of Kurukshetra University.
Lady Governor Smt. Mitra Ghosh, Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva, university officials, deans, directors, heads of departments, faculty members, researchers, and a large number of students attended the programme. Former Minister of State Subhash Sudha and My Bharat Haryana State Director Akarsh Dixit were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Haryana Governor and Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Nashmukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, under which more than one crore youth at over 28,000 locations across the country were coming together to pledge their commitment to a drug-free and developed India.
The Governor said that India has overcome numerous challenges throughout its history, including foreign invasions, wars, economic crises, the COVID-19 pandemic, malaria, and plague. Expressing confidence in the nation's youth, he said they would successfully defeat the social menace of drug abuse with the same determination.
Prof. Ghosh said, "I am especially proud of the people of Haryana, who have made remarkable contributions in strengthening the country's defence, agriculture, sports, education, and information technology sectors. I am confident that Haryana will also lead the fight against drug addiction and make a significant contribution towards building a drug-free society."
He urged everyone to work collectively to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a drug-free India and actively contribute towards making the country a developed, prosperous, and strong nation by 2047. During the programme, the Governor interacted with students, encouraged and blessed them, and also joined them for a commemorative group photograph.
In his address, Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Som Nath Sachdeva said that the campaign launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a significant step towards nurturing healthy, aware, and responsible youth. He said the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan is not merely an anti-drug awareness campaign but a comprehensive people's movement for nation-building. He said that India is the world's youngest nation, with nearly 65 per cent of its population below the age of 35. This demographic strength, he said, is India's greatest asset and the strongest foundation for building a healthy, capable, self-reliant, and prosperous developed nation.
*Run a 100-week nationwide anti-drug awareness campaign - Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that today's youth will lead the developed India of 2047 and therefore must stay away from addiction and drugs while channelising their energy, talent, and potential towards nation-building. He said drug addiction weakens not only individuals but also families, society, and the nation. The Prime Minister appealed to saints, social and spiritual organisations, educational institutions, and youth organisations across the country to collectively lead a 100-week anti-drug awareness campaign by organising public awareness programmes every Sunday. He said that if all organisations join hands in this mission, the campaign will evolve into a nationwide people's movement and deal the strongest blow to drug traffickers.
