Tiranga Mela brings Chandigarh together in the spirit of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ at sector 17 Plaza

Chandigarh, August 12:- Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today inaugurated the Tiranga Mela at Sector 17 Plaza, celebrating the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and invoking the spirit of ‘Vande Mataram’. Designed as a citizen-centric celebration, the three-day mela aims to bring citizens, local entrepreneurs, women self-help groups and market associations together in the spirit of patriotism and community participation.

MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Joint Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Gupta, Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora, MC Councillors Sh. Harjeet Singh and Sh. Sachin Galav, President Chandigarh Beopar Mandal Sh. Sanjiv Chadha, members of the Market Welfare Association and local residents were present on the occasion.

The Mayor visited the stalls set up by local women self-help groups, which were beautifully decorated in the tricolour theme. The women artisans showcased a wide range of creatively handcrafted products, including tricolour-themed items, reflecting their talent, enterprise and patriotic spirit.

Appreciating the initiative, the Mayor said that Har Ghar Tiranga should not remain merely a campaign but should become a people’s movement, with every citizen feeling connected to the national flag. He lauded the Municipal Corporation for providing a platform to local women self-help groups to showcase their skills and participate meaningfully in a national celebration.

The Mayor also highlighted the significance of the national flag and urged citizens to celebrate Independence Day with pride, responsibility and unity.

MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of citizen participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. He said the Tiranga Mela will be organised from August 12 to 14 at Sector 17 Plaza, providing citizens an opportunity to participate in the celebrations while supporting local women entrepreneurs and their handcrafted products.

He said that the mela is envisioned as a vibrant platform where patriotism meets local talent, community participation and the spirit of self-reliance.

MC Commissioner reviews works & issues of Ward 6; plans multi-level parking, green belts and faster civic works

Chandigarh, August 12:- Reinforcing the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s focus on citizen-centric development and better utilisation of public assets, MC Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS today conducted a comprehensive field visit of Ward No. 6 to review ongoing works, civic infrastructure and local development requirements.

The Commissioner was accompanied by area Councillor Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora and concerned Executive Engineers.

During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed several key proposals aimed at improving mobility, public spaces and civic amenities. At Gobindpura Community Centre, he was informed that the tendering process has been completed and construction is expected to commence this month.

At the old MC office land near Rana ki Haveli, Manimajra, an inclusive proposal will be prepared for a multi-level parking facility to ease congestion and facilitate street-sweeping operations, while the feasibility of a future Community Centre will also be explored.

The Commissioner directed officials to compile data on vacant 5, 10 and 15-marla MC plots and initiate the bid/auction process to generate municipal revenue and prevent encroachments.
He also reviewed proposals for developing a green belt at Shivalik Enclave, systematising parking at Samadhi Ghat, creating a temporary children’s playground in the 24×7 project-affected area, and upgrading parking near Kheda Mandir, Shanti Nagar into multi-level parking.

Directions were also issued for completing the remaining road works in Duplex, Complex and Category-4 areas, including opening the Category-4 entry gate after the monsoon.

The Commissioner stressed timely execution, optimal use of MC land and close field-level monitoring to ensure visible improvements in civic infrastructure for residents.

MC Chief Engineer puts ward-level monitoring on fast track to improve civic delivery

Chandigarh, August 12:- In a fresh push towards faster and more responsive civic services, MC Chief Engineer Sh. Sanjay Arora today held a ward-level review meeting with councillors and senior engineering officials to assess ground-level requirements and streamline the execution of development works in Wards No. 9, 10, 21, 22 and 23.

The meeting focused on strengthening coordination between elected representatives and the Municipal Corporation’s engineering wings so that local civic concerns can be resolved efficiently and development projects are executed without unnecessary delays.

The concerned councillors, Executive Engineers and officials of various engineering wings participated in the meeting and apprised the Chief Engineer of the status of ongoing works as well as issues being faced by residents in their respective wards.

Detailed discussions were held on key civic infrastructure and public service areas, including roads, water supply, sewerage, street lighting, public health infrastructure and other development works. The councillors also placed before the engineering officials various public grievances and ward-specific requirements requiring timely intervention.

Sh. Sanjay Arora directed the concerned Executive Engineers to undertake regular field inspections, closely monitor works and ensure timely resolution of public complaints. He stressed that development works must be carried out as per prescribed quality standards and within stipulated timelines.

The Chief Engineer further emphasised that ward-level monitoring should remain a continuous process rather than a one-time exercise. He called for stronger coordination with councillors and timely feedback from the field to ensure that civic issues identified at the grassroots are translated into prompt action.

He said that the objective of the ward review mechanism is to bring civic administration closer to citizens, improve accountability at the field level and ensure that development works respond directly to the needs of local residents.
