Chandigarh, August 26, 2026:The Excise Department, Chandigarh has seized 350 PET bottles (180 ml each) of SANTRA brand liquor, allegedly meant for sale within U.T. Chandigarh, during a checking operation near the Shastri Nagar slip road towards Railway Light Point, Manimajra. The liquor was found in a private vehicle in a quantity exceeding the prescribed possession limit and was confiscated on the spot.
The action was carried out by ETI Gurpreet Singh, along with a police party, acting on specific information and under the guidance of ETC Chandigarh Shri Nishant Yadav and Collector Excise Shri Pradhuman Singh.
Following the seizure, the local police were informed and an FIR has been registered at Police Station IT Park, Chandigarh, against the person found in possession of the liquor under Section 61-1-14 of the Punjab Excise Act and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), formerly Section 188 of the IPC.
The Excise Department is investigating the backward linkages to ascertain the source of the liquor, and further action will be taken as per law.
