CHANDIGARH, 02.09.26-The Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services, U.T. Chandigarh under the aegis of State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, organized an Awareness Programme on Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services on 31st August 2026 at Asha Kiran Vocational Training Centre, Sector-46, Chandigarh.

The objective of the programme was to create awareness among the trainees, staff and general public about the benefits, jurisdiction and functioning of the Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services.

The programme was addressed by Mrs. Surjeet Kaur Walia, Member, Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services, U.T. Chandigarh.

Mrs. Surjeet Kaur Walia explained in detail about the concept and functioning of the Permanent Lok Adalat. She apprised the participants that the Permanent Lok Adalat has been established for speedy and amicable settlement of disputes relating to Public Utility Services such as Transport Service, Postal, Telegraph, Electricity, Water Supply, Sanitation, Hospital/Dispensary and Insurance Services etc.

She further informed that any person can approach the Permanent Lok Adalat for Public Utility Services without paying any Court fee for settlement of their disputes, and if the parties fail to reach an agreement through conciliation, the Permanent Lok Adalat can decide the dispute on merits. She also highlighted that the award of the Permanent Lok Adalat is final and binding on all parties and is deemed to be a decree of a Civil Court.

She also explained the procedure for filing petitions before the Permanent Lok Adalat and encouraged the participants to avail the benefits of this alternative dispute redressal mechanism for inexpensive and expeditious justice.

The participants showed keen interest and actively interacted during the session. The staff of Asha Kiran Vocational Training Centre thanked the Permanent Lok Adalat team for organizing such an informative programme.
