Chandigarh, Sept 3 – Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called upon the teaching community to go beyond their role as teachers and also serve as mentors, role models and sources of inspiration for students, helping them become responsible and sensitive citizens. He said that a nation that respects its teachers secures its future.

The Governor was addressing the 7th ‘Teachers’ Excellence Awards’ ceremony, held today at Manav Mangal Smart School in Mohali. On the occasion, he honoured 11 outstanding teachers from schools, colleges and universities with the ‘Award of Excellence’. He also presented certificates to teachers of Manav Mangal Smart School in recognition of their contributions and dedication. The First Lady of Haryana, Smt. Mitra Ghosh, was also present on this occasion.

Congratulating the Manav Mangal Group for successfully carrying forward the initiative of honouring outstanding teachers for seven consecutive years, the Governor said that such platforms provide teachers with the respect and recognition they truly deserve. He observed that although the role of teachers in societal progress and nation-building is fundamental, their contributions often remain away from the limelight.

The Governor said that while society honours life-saving doctors, engineers contributing to nation-building, and scientists driving innovation and research, the foundation of their success is laid by teachers who nurture and prepare them at a time when the world may not even know their names.

Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh said that a good teacher does not merely complete the curriculum but also builds character, sparks curiosity and instils in students the confidence to dream and the courage to turn those dreams into reality.

Highlighting the awardees from educational institutions across Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, the Governor said that the initiative demonstrates that excellence in teaching is not confined to any one city or institution. Rather, it reflects the collective educational strength of the Tricity and the surrounding regions.

Commending the inspiring journey of the Manav Mangal Group, he said that the group is positively impacting the lives of thousands of students and their families through its six educational institutions in the Tricity.

Congratulating the award-winning teachers, the Governor said that their dedication and contributions, often made quietly and consistently in classrooms without public recognition, form the true backbone of the nation’s education system. He added that these awards serve as a means for society to express its respect and gratitude for the invaluable contributions of teachers.

Referring to the rapid technological changes taking place in the education sector, the Governor said that while Artificial Intelligence and digital tools are transforming the ways in which knowledge is accessed and shared, technology can never replace the human touch, empathy, wisdom, and moral guidance of a good teacher.

The Governor also extended his appreciation to the teaching community for its invaluable contribution and conveyed advance greetings on the occasion of the upcoming Teachers’ Day.

Representatives of the school management, including Mr. Sanjay Sardana, Director of the Manav Mangal Group of Schools, were also present on the occasion.
