Chandigarh, September 19:BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who was in Pathankot on Friday for the Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, got teary-eyed when a mother who had lost her son to drugs broke down while recounting her ordeal.
Nabin had reached Pathankot to flag off the Punjab BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’. After returning from his Punjab visit, he shared a video of the emotional interaction along with a heartfelt post on social media platform ‘X’.
In the video, the mother can be seen speaking to Nabin before breaking down in tears. Visibly moved, Nabin rose from his seat, folded his hands and offered words of comfort to her.
Sharing the video, Nabin wrote, “The pain of these mothers has shaken me to the core. What greater sorrow can there be for a mother than to see her son lose his life to drugs before her very eyes?”
Earlier in the day, before flagging off the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, Nabin met several families whose children had fallen victim to drug abuse or had lost their lives because of it.
He said that it was unacceptable to see Punjab’s youth being consumed by drugs and called for collective efforts by all sections of society to confront the crisis.
The pain reflected on his face during the interaction was equally evident in his remarks at the event.“ Drugs cannot be Punjab’s identity. Punjab’s identity is the Bani of the Gurus. Punjab’s identity is the sweat of its farmers. Punjab’s identity is the bravery of its soldiers, and Punjab’s identity is the spirit of its sportspersons,” he said.
