Chandigarh, September 29, 2026:Bharatiya Janata Party Chandigarh Pradesh General Secretary Ramvir Bhatti launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party over the reported possibility of an alliance between the two parties for the upcoming Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections.
Ramvir Bhatti said that the real face of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party now stands exposed before the people of Chandigarh. While the two parties are engaged in a political battle against each other in Punjab, they appear to be exploring an alliance in Chandigarh for electoral gains.
He said that according to media reports, the Chandigarh Congress election committee discussed a proposal for an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party for the Municipal Corporation elections, with a majority of members reportedly supporting the proposal. MP Manish Tewari and Chandigarh Congress President H.S. Lucky were also present at the meeting.
Ramvir Bhatti said, “Manish Tewari and H.S. Lucky must answer the people of Chandigarh—if Congress is fighting against the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, why does it want to join hands with the same party in Chandigarh? Is Congress’ politics based on principles or merely on electoral calculations?”
He said that this political proximity between Congress and AAP is not new. The two parties had also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Chandigarh as allies, while in Punjab they continue to pursue separate political agendas.
Ramvir Bhatti said that the proposed Congress-AAP alliance in Chandigarh is a completely unprincipled and politically unethical alliance. Parties that stand against each other in Punjab are attempting to come together in Chandigarh purely for electoral advantage. He said this reflects political opportunism and exposes the priorities of both parties before the people.
Taking a further dig at Congress, Ramvir Bhatti said, “Whenever an election comes up against the BJP, the alleged political fight between Congress and AAP suddenly turns into friendship. The people are asking why parties that attack each other in Punjab are ready to come together in Chandigarh in the name of stopping the BJP.”
He said Congress and AAP must clarify their common policy, programme and political agenda if they intend to contest the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections together.
Ramvir Bhatti said that the people of Chandigarh understand political opportunism very well. Coming together merely to prevent the BJP from gaining political advantage raises serious questions about the priorities of both parties.
He said, “The politics of Congress and AAP appears to be driven by electoral arithmetic rather than public service. They present different faces before the people, but when elections arrive, they come together to protect their political interests.”
Ramvir Bhatti said that the BJP will go before the people of Chandigarh with its organisation, workers and development agenda. He said that irrespective of the political equations Congress and AAP may formulate, the people of Chandigarh will make their own informed choice and will not be misled by such political alliances.
He demanded that Manish Tewari and H.S. Lucky publicly explain the basis of the proposed alliance with AAP in Chandigarh and whether the move is being driven merely by electoral calculations against the BJP.
