Chandigarh, September 30:- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised a ‘Safai Mitra Safety and Dignity Camp’ (Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir) at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38-C, as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, with a special focus on the health, safety, dignity and welfare of sanitation workers.

The camp, held with the message “Samman Safai Mitron Ka, Sankalp Swachh Bharat Ka”, was aimed at ensuring that Safai Mitras who work to keep the city clean also receive care, protection and social security.

Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi, who was the Chief Guest, interacted with Safai Mitras and felicitated workers for their dedicated and exemplary services. Medical officer of health Dr. Inderdeep Kaur and other senior officers were present during the occassion.

Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said the cleanliness and public health of Chandigarh are closely linked with the tireless efforts of Safai Mitras. He emphasised that their welfare must remain a continuous priority, with special attention to health, occupational safety, dignity, social security and opportunities for empowerment.

As part of the camp, health check-ups, medical consultations and health screenings, including cancer screening, were provided to Safai Mitras to encourage regular health monitoring and early detection of health concerns. Ayushman Card registration and facilitation was also undertaken for eligible workers who did not have the card.

The programme also highlighted the NAMASTE initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, which focuses on the safety, dignity, healthcare, social security and empowerment of sanitation workers.

The Mayor felicitated Safai Mitras with Appreciation Certificates, including Raghubir Singh, Neelam, Ashok, Baby, Kiran Pal, Rajni, Dharampal, Lata, Sahil, Poonam, Vipin Kumar, Arjun Das, Sarvan, Suresh Pal and Manoj Kumar. D2D Safai Mitras Ankush, Mamta, Geeta, Kiran, Deepak, Prakash, Sonia, Shakuntla, Dilbagh and Raj Kumar were also recognised.

The camp reinforced the message that a clean Chandigarh must also mean a safe, healthy and dignified life for its Safai Mitras.
