SHIMLA- 2 October, 2026-On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Governor Kavinder Gupta paid floral tributes to the ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, at the historic Ridge in Shimla today.

Interacting with mediapersons, the Governor said that Mahatma Gandhi, through his struggle and the power of Satyagraha, played a historic role in India’s freedom movement and dedicated his entire life to the service of society. He said that Gandhi Ji united people from different sections of society in the freedom struggle and his contribution would always be remembered by the nation.

“Mahatma Gandhi is an ideal, a source of inspiration and a guide for us. His teachings continue to remain relevant even today,” he said.

The Governor also paid homage to all the freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices contributed to India’s independence. He said that the nation must continue to remember and draw inspiration from their courage, sacrifice and dedication.

The Governor also visited an exhibition on the life and journey of Mahatma Gandhi organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations at the Ridge.

On the occasion, he distributed heaters provided by Maitri Sanstha among sanitation workers.

Later, the Governor visited the CTO to pay homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and recalled his contribution to the nation’s progress.

The Governor said that Lal Bahadur Shastri set high standards of integrity, simplicity and probity in public life. “Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji established high standards of cleanliness and probity in politics. In the present times, political leaders need to draw inspiration from his life and values,” he said.

The Governor emphasized that the lives and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri continue to offer important lessons in public service, responsibility and commitment to the nation.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, former MP Pratibha Singh, Mayor, Municipal Corporation Shimla Surender Chauhan, Vice Chairman, Himachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Kehar Singh Khachi, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
