Chandigarh, October 4:- Mayor of Chandigarh, Sh. Saurabh Joshi, today addressed a press conference at the UT State Guest House and shared details of the upcoming 118th National Executive Meeting of the All India Mayors Council, being hosted by Chandigarh on October 5 and 6. Mayors from various cities across the country will participate in the two-day conference, which will focus on the theme “Sashakt Nagar • Viksit Bharat.” He was accompanied by Sh. Manoj Kumar, Secretary, All India Mayors Council.
The Mayor said the conference will provide an important national platform for elected representatives from urban local bodies to exchange successful initiatives, share experiences and deliberate on innovative approaches for strengthening urban governance.
The two-day conference will be Inaugurated by Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh on 5th October, 2026 at 11.00 am. He said that the conference will focus on planned urban development, cleanliness, green spaces, water management, digital governance and citizen-centric civic services, with special emphasis on Jan Bhagidari, environmental sustainability, water conservation, technology-enabled governance, waste-to-resource initiatives and women’s participation through Self-Help Groups.
Chandigarh will showcase its best practices in planned urban development, cleanliness, green spaces, water management and digital governance, while also learning from innovative initiatives being implemented by urban local bodies across the country.
The conference will deliberate on strengthening Urban Local Bodies, improving coordination between elected representatives and officials, enhancing citizen participation and developing cleaner, greener, smarter and self-reliant cities.
The Mayor said the conference is expected to facilitate meaningful exchange of ideas and generate practical recommendations towards stronger cities and contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
