**Nahan, October 13, 2026:** Bharatiya Janata Party Himachal Pradesh President Dr. Rajeev Bindal launched a sharp attack on the Congress government while addressing a BJP workshop in the Nahan Assembly constituency. He alleged that nearly four years of the government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had been marked by corruption, nepotism, mafia activities, financial mismanagement and anti-people policies.
Dr. Bindal said that instead of taking Himachal Pradesh forward on the path of development, the Congress government had pushed the state into a vicious cycle of mounting debt, increased financial burdens and administrative disorder.
He alleged that the Sukhu government had inflicted a double blow on poor and middle-class families. On the one hand, the government had increased the financial burden through diesel taxes, cement prices, electricity charges, transport fares, stamp duty and various public services. On the other, its alleged failure to curb mafia activities had raised serious concerns about the protection of the state's resources.
"The government that was supposed to provide relief to the poor has instead disturbed the household budgets of ordinary families. The Congress government will be remembered for taxes, mismanagement and the closure of public institutions rather than development," Dr. Bindal said.
He alleged that decisions to close or reorganise educational institutions, healthcare facilities, veterinary hospitals, sub-tehsil offices and patwar circles had created hardships for people, particularly in rural areas.
Dr. Bindal also raised questions about the implementation of welfare schemes, including school uniforms, HIMCARE and the Sahara scheme.
He said that the people of Himachal Pradesh were facing difficulties in accessing education, healthcare, employment opportunities and essential public services, while rising electricity bills and the growing drug menace had added to their concerns.
### Government Borrowed Thousands of Crores but Failed to Deliver Relief
Dr. Bindal alleged that the Congress government had borrowed approximately **₹45,000 crore** during its tenure without bringing meaningful improvement to the state's financial position.
He questioned the government's expenditure on political appointments, advisers, Officers on Special Duty, chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and other positions at a time when employees, pensioners and unemployed youth were facing financial difficulties.
"When employees are waiting for their dues, pensioners are struggling and unemployed youth are searching for opportunities, how can the government justify spending public money on political appointments and administrative extravagance?" he asked.
He alleged that the government had prioritised political accommodation over public welfare and failed to provide adequate relief to ordinary citizens.
### Congress Betrayed Women and Unemployed Youth with False Guarantees
Dr. Bindal accused the Congress of securing power through ambitious electoral guarantees and subsequently failing to fulfil them.
He said that the Congress had promised ₹1,500 per month to eligible women, but a large number of women were still waiting for the promised financial assistance.
He claimed that, calculated from December 2022, the cumulative assistance promised to each eligible woman would amount to approximately ₹75,000 over the relevant period.
"The women of Himachal Pradesh are asking where their promised financial assistance has gone. The Congress must explain why so many women have been left waiting," he said.
Dr. Bindal further questioned the Congress government's promises of one lakh government jobs and five lakh employment opportunities.
He said that unemployed youth were demanding answers regarding recruitment, job creation and the government's employment guarantees.
He also accused the Congress of failing to deliver on its promise of free electricity and demanded an explanation for the increasing financial burden on consumers.
### Congress Leadership Must Answer Questions on Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Its MP
Referring to the statewide protests organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha, Dr. Bindal said that the Congress leadership must clarify its position regarding serious allegations of sexual harassment involving Congress MP **Angomcha Bimol Akoijam**, who represents Inner Manipur in the Lok Sabha.
He said that complaints made by women at Jawaharlal Nehru University and the subsequent disciplinary action taken by the university had raised serious questions requiring a transparent response.
Dr. Bindal demanded that the Congress leadership explain what organisational steps it had taken following the allegations against its MP.
He said that during BJP Mahila Morcha demonstrations across Himachal Pradesh, women workers burnt effigies of **Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam**.
The protests witnessed strong expressions of anger among women workers, who raised slogans against the Congress leadership and demanded accountability, protection for complainants and an impartial investigation.
"Making speeches about women's dignity is easy, but ensuring accountability when serious allegations emerge against a member of one's own party is the real test of leadership," Dr. Bindal said.
He emphasised that the allegations should be investigated impartially and that strict legal action must follow if wrongdoing is established.
### Congress Cannot Escape Accountability by Raising Political Slogans
Dr. Bindal also criticised the Congress over its political record, referring to the Emergency and the dismissal of elected state governments in the past.
He alleged that the Congress was attempting to divert public attention from its failures by questioning democratic institutions and engaging in political demonstrations.
He said that Chief Minister Sukhu and other Congress leaders should concentrate on governance rather than spending their time on political accusations and street protests.
"The people of Himachal Pradesh want to know what the Congress government has actually achieved in education, healthcare, employment, road infrastructure and economic development during its nearly four years in office," he said.
Dr. Bindal asserted that the Congress government should abandon the belief that the public could repeatedly be persuaded by unfulfilled promises and political announcements.
"The people of Himachal Pradesh are politically aware. They are demanding an account of every broken promise, every delayed development project and every additional financial burden imposed upon them," he said.
He added that the BJP would continue raising issues concerning women's dignity, youth employment, public welfare and the state's economic interests.
Dr. Bindal expressed confidence that in the **2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections**, the people would deliver a democratic verdict on what he described as the Congress government's anti-people policies, unfulfilled guarantees, rising financial burden and failure to accelerate development.
"The Congress government must answer to the people. Himachal Pradesh deserves development, employment, efficient administration and accountable governance—not excuses, political appointments and broken promises," Dr. Bindal concluded.
