CHANDIGARH, 13.11.24-The Department of Public Administration and Police Administration at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a field visit to the District Court, Chandigarh. The visit aimed at providing students with practical insights into the legal and judicial systems. Mr. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Program Coordinator, emphasised the importance of experiential learning and highlighted how this visit would bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world judicial processes. His introduction set the stage for a deeper understanding of the role of the judiciary in upholding justice and societal order.
The students then met Justice Sunil, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandigarh, who shared his journey within the judiciary and spoke about the challenges faced in providing equitable legal aid and the critical role of the DLSA in offering support to those in need. His discussion focused on the mission of making justice accessible and the commitment required addressing various societal issues through a fair legal system.

Following this, the students engaged with Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sachdeva, Chairperson of the Lok Adalat. Mr. Sachdeva elaborated on the Lok Adalat's contributions to resolving disputes swiftly and amicably. He highlighted how alternative dispute resolution mechanisms like the Lok Adalat can help reduce the burden on traditional court systems and promote a more restorative approach to justice. The students also interacted with Counsellor and police personnel, and gained insights into the close collaboration between law enforcement and the judiciary. The visit concluded with a guided tour of the court premises, where students observed the layout, structure, and daily operations of various court departments.
