CHANDIGARH, 23.01.25-The Post Graduate Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh kick-started the two-day workshop on ‘Design, Layout and Print’. The workshop focused on training students on newspaper and magazine layout and professional software interfaces. Mr. Naresh Malkania, Graphic Designer, Editorial Department Amar Ujala was the resource person. The workshop is being organised under the PM-USHA scheme Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
Students were informed about the evolution of design, the different types of print media layouts, and their role in engaging the readers. They were also briefed about the design tools used in Quark Xpress and InDesign. Over 100 students attended the event and gained experience in crafting compelling layouts.
College Principal, Dr. Ajay Sharma congratulated the Head of the Department, Dr. Priya Chadha and faculty members for organising the two day workshop and stated that such workshops are essential to equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the competitive media industry.
The sessions were interactive and engaging, with participants working directly on real-world design projects under the expert guidance from the industry. The workshop covered essential tools and techniques for creating visually appealing and professional designs, making it highly beneficial for students and media enthusiasts aspiring to excel in the field. Participants appreciated the structured approach and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience. Aastha Sharma and Arshpreet Kaur, students of GGDSD College stated, “The first day of the workshop has significantly enhanced our understanding of print media softwares. Learning from an industry expert like Naresh Malkania was truly inspiring.”
