CHANDIGARH, 24.10.24-World food day is celebrated every year on 16th in the month of October . The purpose of this event is to raise public awareness about worldwide action for the future of healthy whole some food and nutrition.
On this occasion , the Department of Dietetics, PGIMER, under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Sahni; Chief Dietician & Head, visited children home- ‘Ashiana and Snehalya’ for girls in sector -15 , Chandigarh and interacted with children through talk and discussion on healthy food and snacks.
Mr, BN Behra, senior dietician along with other dieticians talked about importance of hygiene and sanitation in maintaining good health. It was overwhelming to see children’s response towards learning more about good nutrition since almost all of them are active in sports and represent UT in various games.
Numerous diet queries were also addressed to. Anthropometric measurements like height , weight and BMI was calculated for all inmates and nutritious millet and milk based snacks were distributed to all. This program was done under the banner of Nutrition society of India (NSI) along with Indian dietetic association (IDA )and Indian Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN).
