CME on “International Day for Disaster Reduction"

CNE on “International Day for Disaster Reduction" which highlighted the role of technology in the emergence, management, and prevention of disasters was organized at NINE, PGIMER.

Keeping in mind this year's theme on International Day for Disaster Reduction i.e. "Empowering the next generation for a resilient future" the National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with NSS unit NINE conducted an awareness program to spread a message of hope, resilience, and active management of disasters.

Dr. Vipin Kaushal, Medical Superintendent, PGIMER graced the event and shared his mindful views regarding the theme.

Around 200 students and faculty from NINE participated in the program. All the experts discussed the topic highlighting education's crucial role in protecting and enabling children to combat disasters.

Dr Sukhpal Kaur, Principal, NINE emphasized the importance of having core knowledge about management and preparations for combating disasters.

BSc 3rd year NINE students also performed a role play highlighting the importance of technology and sustainable development to reduce disaster occurrence. The program was organized by the faculty of Medical-Surgical Nursing of NINE, PGIMER Chandigarh.

ROTTO PGIMER’s Organ Donation Awareness Drive at Chandigarh Carnival Sees Overwhelming Response with 207 Pledges for the Noble Cause

ROTTO PGIMER's Organ Donation Awareness Campaign at the Chandigarh Carnival received an inspiring response, with 207 individuals pledging their support for organ donation. This initiative aimed to educate the public on the life-saving potential of organ donation and engaged visitors through insightful interactions with the ROTTO team.

The campaign featured interactive displays, informative pamphlets, and one-on-one discussions, all designed to encourage visitors to consider becoming organ donors. The enthusiastic participation from the community underscored a strong commitment to this noble cause.

Prof. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent and Nodal Officer of ROTTO, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming turnout, stating, "We are truly humbled by the response we received at the Chandigarh Carnival. ROTTO PGIMER is dedicated to conducting these awareness camps regularly, as they are vital for educating the public and inspiring contributions to this life-saving mission."

Motivated visitors shared their personal reasons for pledging their support. Manpreet Kaur and Baljot Singh remarked, “Pledging to donate our organs gives us a sense of fulfilment. Knowing I can save lives is deeply gratifying." Pardeep Kumar added, “Pledging my organs means that a part of me can live on by helping others. It’s a small act with a massive impact." Satnam Singh acknowledged, “I had never thought deeply about organ donation until today’s camp opened my eyes to how I can save lives. I’m proud to make this pledge." The sentiments of young Ankita who visited the stall summed it up perfectly: “Knowing that I can offer someone a second chance at life is incredibly empowering. I’m grateful for this opportunity to make a difference."

These heartfelt testimonials reflect the powerful, life-affirming message that ROTTO PGIMER aimed to convey through this impactful campaign.

Through ongoing efforts, ROTTO PGIMER continues to promote awareness about the transformative impact of organ donation, fostering a compassionate community dedicated to the gift of life.

Until We Meet Again
The Global PGI Alumni Summit 2024 Concludes with a Promise to Reunite

As the sun set on the final day of the highly anticipated Global PGI Alumni Summit 2024, feelings of joy and nostalgia filled the air here at PGIMER today.

Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER , eloquently summarized the sentiment of everyone present, stating, "This event isn’t just about the past; it’s a promise to stay connected in the future. The bonds we created here are timeless. While we say goodbye today, it’s not really goodbye. We celebrate our journey together and will continue to support each other, no matter where life takes us.”

The day was packed with exciting sporting events that brought alumni together. Intense cricket match brought out friendly rivalries, while strategic chess games challenged many minds. Badminton courts were alive with laughter as participants, some playing after decades, rekindled old friendships. Table tennis matches added a playful spirit, contributing to the sense of community among everyone.

A particularly poignant moment occurred when Prof. GD Puri, former Dean (Academics) at PGIMER , shared heartfelt memories from the same badminton court in Zakir Hall, where he played 30 years ago. His reflections reminded attendees of how deeply the experiences of campus life resonate within us. Similarly, Prof. Sadhna Lal exemplified competitive spirit as she teamed up with a longtime friend for an exhilarating badminton showdown, reviving shared memories from 20 years ago.

As alumni left with promises to meet again, there were both tears and smiles, and everyone felt a sense of gratitude. It was clear that this was not the end but the start of something new. With plans for biennial event already firmed up,the connections made during this special weekend were sure to grow stronger. The final sentiment echoed throughout the venue: “ Until we meet again.”
