ECI directs to cancel parole of Daljit Singh Bhana till the complition of election process

Chandigarh, July 8The Election Commission of India (ECI), in view of the Jalandhar West by-election, has directed to cancel the parole of Daljit Singh Bhana till the election process is over. Congress and BJP had also filed complaints with the commission to cancel Bhana's parole.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab has informed the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar about the instructions of the ECI. The Election Commission has directed that in order to carry out the smooth election process and in view of the complaints received, the parole of Daljit Singh Bhana should be canceled till the completion of the Jalandhar West by-election process.

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, July 8:Amidst the ongoing campaign to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an interstate organised crime syndicate with the arrest of its kingpin and four members from a flat located in Kharar, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

The kingpin of the syndicate has been identified as Jai Sharma alias Sukha Pistol Ambarsarya, a resident of Prem Nagar in Amritsar, while, four members have been identified as Nikhil Sharma alias Lala of Sandhu Colony in Amritsar, Moni of Kot Khalsa in Amritsar, Arpit Thakur and Karan Sharma, both residents of Sri Naina Devi in district Bilaspur of Himachal Pradesh. Accused Sukha Pistol has a criminal history with seven cases pertaining to Arms Act, Snatching and Theft registered against him.

Police teams have also recovered two .32 bore pistols along with three magazines and eight live cartridges from their possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following reliable inputs that accused Sukha Pistol along with his accomplices had gone to Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh to procure illicit weapons, teams from Police Station Civil Line Amritsar started keeping vigil on their movements. On their return from Madhya Pradesh, Police teams have pinpointed their location in Kharar, he added.

“Acting swiftly, Police teams under the supervision of ADCP City-2 Abhimanyu Rana have conducted a raid at a flat and successfully arrested all accused persons and recovered two pistols along with ammunition from their possession,” said the DGP.

He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused persons were planning to attack members of rival gang. Accused persons have been booked under the newly introduced section 111 (Organised Crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he added.

Sharing more details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that this criminal syndicate was engaged in criminal acts including theft, snatching and arms trafficking.

He said that further investigations are on to trace the forward and backward linkages of this module, and identify the MP-based arm smugglers. More arrests and recoveries are expected, he added.

A case FIR no. 118 dated 07/07/2024 has been registered under section 111 of the BNS and 25(7) of the Arms Act at Police Station Civil Line Amritsar.

CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR, July 8:In a major action by the Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar amidst the ongoing fight against organised crime launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, member of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) Simranjit Singh alias Bablu— who is key assailant of former terrorist Rattandeep Singh— sustained bullet injuries on his both legs while unsuccessfully attempting to escape from the police custody on the outskirts of Jalandhar city, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday.

As per the information, former militant Rattandeep Singh was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in SBS Nagar on April 3, 2024.

The development came few hours after the arrest of the accused Simranjit Bablu by the Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, when, following his disclosures, a Police team under the overall supervision of AIG CI Jalandhar Navjot Singh Mahal was taking the accused to the place near Wadala located at Jalandhar-Nakodar road, where he claimed to have concealed the pistol suspected to be used in Rattandeep's murder.

“On reaching the location, the accused tried to escape from the police custody after pushing down a police official, which led the CI Jalandhar team to open fire to stop him from fleeing resulting in gunshot injuries,” said the DGP, while adding that the accused has been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Police teams have also recovered two sophisticated weapons— including one .32 Webley revolver and one .32 pistol— along with one magazine and 19 live cartridges from his possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused Simranjit Bablu was working on the directions of Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Rinda and USA-based Gopi Nawanshehria, who tasked him and the other assailant identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jassi Kulam to carry out target killing of former militant Rattandeep Singh to creat panic in the society. As per the information, accused Jassi Kulam managed to flee abroad after committing the crime.

He said that the Police have invoked sections of Arms Act and criminal conspiracy, and further investigations are on to establish forward and backward linkages in this case.

Sharing operation details, AIG Navjot Mahal said that following the intel-inputs, Police teams from CI Jalandhar laid a special naka in the area of Deol Nagar Colony, Jalandhar and successfully arrested the accused Simranjit Singh alias Bablu.

He said that the arrested accused is a hardcore criminal and facing numerous cases pertaining to murder, attempt to murder and Arms Act. Accused Bablu was also involved in the assassination of an ASI from Amritsar Police, he added.

A case FIR no. 39 dated 07.07.2024 has been registered under section 25 of the Arms Act, and section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Panchayat Secretary, former Sarpanch for embezzlement in Panchayat funds

Chandigarh July 8, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday, has arrested Mukhtiar Singh, Panchayat Secretary, a resident of village Sona, and Harbhajan Kaur, former Sarpanch of village Hiala in district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar for committing misappropriation in Panchayat funds received from the state government for development works.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this case has been registered against both the said accused and others based on an inquiry regarding the fraud committed in the grants received by the Gram Panchayat Hiala.

Giving more details in this regard, he added that during the investigation of a complaint number 13/2017/SBS Nagar, it was found that Gram Panchayat Hiala had received a total of 9 grants totaling Rs.16,45,000 from the year 2008 to the year 2013 for execution of development works in the village. In this regard, the then Sarpanch Surjit Singh, acting Sarpanch/Member Panchayat Bakhshish Ram, who has died on 22.09.2021), acting Sarpanch/Member Panchayat Harbhajan Kaur and Panchayat Secretary Mukhtiar Singh have committed grave irregularities in the said grants by submitting fake bills/receipts and incomplete muster rolls for payment to the labour out of these grants.

He informed that based on the enquiry a case on date 08.07.2024 under sections 420, 406, 409, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120-B of IPC and 13(1)(a)read with 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the said accused and others at VB police station Jalandhar range. Both the aforementioned accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress.

Chandigarh, July 8-The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, remains dedicated to addressing the legitimate demands of its employees. In line with this commitment, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, convened a meeting with the Anganwadi Mulajam Union Punjab (CITU) and Sarva Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union Punjab to address their issues.

The meeting was held in a congenial atmosphere. The unions presented several key demands, including: Grade 3 status for Anganwadi workers and Grade 4 for helpers, Inclusion of children aged 0 to 6 years in Anganwadi centers, Pre-nursery teacher status for Anganwadi workers, Severance and gratuity benefits for Anganwadi workers and helpers, Recruitment of additional Anganwadi workers and helpers, Medical leave provisions, Creation of health cards for free treatment under the Ayushman Bima Yojana, Doubling of honorariums.

Dr. Kaur attentively listened to the union representatives and assured them that their legitimate demands would be addressed promptly. A follow-up meeting with various departments is scheduled for August 5, 2024, to resolve these issues.

VB arrests Patwari for accepting Rs 5000 bribe

Chandigarh July 8, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state has arrested a revenue Patwari Patwari Jaspreet Singh, posted at Raikot, district Ludhiana for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this above mentioned revenue official has arrested based on a complaint lodged by Gursewak Singh, a resident of Green City, Raikot on the Chief Minister's anti corruption action line.

He further informed that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the said Patwari has taken illegal gratification of Rs 5000 through his private assistant named Laddi, for mutation of land.

The spokesperson added that during verification of allegations levelled in the complaint have been found correct as the same have been supported by oral evidence as well as video recording of occurrence and allegations of taking Rs 5000 bribe has been proved.

On the basis of this verification report a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the said Patwari at VB police station Ludhiana range. The accused Patwari has been arrested and would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress.

Vigilance Bureau arrests Assistant Sub Inspector for taking Rs 2,70,000 bribe

Chandigarh July 8, 2024 -The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Charanjit Singh, posted at police station Division No 5, Ludhiana city for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,70,000 as he has surrendered to the Bureau after registration of corruption case against him.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said in this regard a case has already been registered against the said police personnel based on a complaint lodged by Kamaljit Ahuja, owner of Hotel Taj, in Jawahar Nagar Camp, near Bus Stand, Ludhiana city at the Chief Minister's anti corruption action line.

He further added that the complainant has alleged in his online complaint that said ASI had obtained illegal gratification under threat from him for adding sections 307, 379-B IPC against his family members in a case already registered at the said police station against them and are demanding more bribe money from him.

The spokesperson added that during verification the allegations levelled in the complaint have been found correct as the same have been supported by oral evidence as well as recording of conversation taken place between complainant and suspect ASI Charanjit Singh. He further added that as per this enquiry, prima facie, it was proved that bribe money of Rs 2,70,000 had been taken by ASI Charanjit Singh in the name of SHO of this police station and had also demanded bribe of Rs 2 lakh per month for allowing the complainant to run his hotel smoothly.

He informed that on the basis of this investigation report a case under prevention of corruption act has already been registered against the said ASI Charanjit Singh at VB police station Ludhiana range. He added that role of concerned SHO and any other officials would also be examined during the investigation.
