Chandigarh, October 11: Today, Yuvsatta-NGO and ‘Girls Parliament’ of Kundan International School organized International Day of Girl Child celebrations at their school campus with pink turbans rally for girls’ rights, elocution and colourful cultural programmes, raising voices for a better world where girls feel safe, secure and realize their full potential. Prominent amongst those who participated in the endeavour included Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights-CCPCR, Dr. Shashi Jain, President, SMC, Kundan International School, Prof. (Dr.) Monica Munjial Singh, Chairperson, Centre for Social Work, Panjab University and Mr. Pramod Sharma, founder, Yuvsatta (youth for peace)
Welcome the dignitaries Mrs Yogesh Jadli, Principal, Kundan International School, shared that this October 11th also became very important as the most auspicious Ashtami & Navami also falls on this day during the current days of Navratri, celebrating and honouring Goddess Durga- the embodiment of feminine power and strength.
Addressing the gathering Mr. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, said that seeing his daughter growing, gives him extra energy to provide safe-public spaces in the whole of the city for all girls and women, so that they can realize their true potential.
Appreciating the efforts of Yuvsatta to promote a unique ‘Girls India Campaign’, Ms. Shipra Bansal said that young girls are particularly vulnerable, often being the targets of severe online predation and stalking. Schools and parents need to carry out mass awareness and countermeasures to protect computers, mobile phones, networks and data on an ongoing basis.
Mr. Pramod Sharma in his concluding remarks emphasized that we need to change the slogan of ‘Save Girl Child’ to ‘Demand & Claim Your Rights’. As gender equality in the society can’t be established until and unless girls and women take a stand to demand and claim their rightful dues. And all the participants were also administered an oath to work for ‘Girls & Women Friendly Chandigarh’.
