Chandigarh, October 26:- Sh. Kuldeep Kumar, Mayor, Chandigarh today inaugurated Sensory Prak in sector 22, here in presence of Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, MC Commissioner, Sh. Damanpreet Singh, area councillor and other councillors & prominent persons of city.

While addressing the audience, the Mayor said that the idea of sensory park focuses on engaging and enhancing multiple senses and abilities of individual like sight, taste, smell, touch, hearing, mobility and motor skills and intellectual skill etc.

He said that the park also offers variety of ways of meeting, play and leisure needs of children with and without disabilities. The project titled “Sensory Park” has been developed in the park near House No.3901 to 3905, Sector 22-D, Chandigarh opposite Gurudwara Sahib having area 0.65 acre at a cost of approximately Rs.124.54 Lacs.

The Mayor further said that the play area have rubber flooring which enhances the safety of children. For visually impaired individual, tactile cement concrete tactile pavers are used which serves as directional indictors. Play equipments such as shoulder builder, spring rider, see saw, merry-go-around, swing, leg roller and wheel chair accessible basketball court, all help children work on their big and small muscles, orienting their body in shape and sense of body balance. Various musical equipments such as congo track, drum track, musical panel and polls are also installed, said the Mayor.

He said that interactive railings with steps at various level have been installed in the park. A hedge maze having labyrinth of pathways with flooring as a reflexology path has also forms the centre of attraction. Various kinds of herbs, shrubs and trees are planted.

He said that children are encouraged to touch, smell, taste and generally attract with the environment around them. Different feature walls also exist along the pathway which helps activate children’s observing and learning ability. Wall having surfaces with illusion art, blackboard where they can scribble with chalk and walls having cut-outs of different shapes entice them to explore different aspects.

The Mayor said that Sensory Park is a wonderful way for children to explore their senses and learn about the environment around them.
