CHANDIGARH. 06.11.24-The Victory against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the aegis of Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and Chandigarh Administration, organised an eight-day campaign titled ‘Beggar Free Chandigarh’.
The initiative entailed collection and distribution of woollen clothes to street dwellers to help them face the approaching winter with comfort. Students and faculty members participated actively in this noble drive, contributing garments like sweaters, shawls, jeans, trousers, overcoats, gloves, and blankets. These donations were distributed among the underprivileged people. In another thoughtful initiative, the Club organised a one-minute video-making competition under the theme ‘Victory against Drug Abuse’. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Add-on Course in Video Reporting and under the aegis of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The competition aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free society. More than 25 students actively participated, showcasing their creativity and commitment to the cause by sharing impactful videos that highlighted the dangers of substance abuse and ways to combat it. The winners were honoured with cash prizes and certificates.

Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan asserted that the endeavours of the Club aptly reflect the college’s commitment to social responsibility and youth empowerment, aligning with national efforts to eradicate drug abuse. She added that while the ‘Beggar Free Chandigarh’ drive stands as an inspiring example of community service and encourages others to take small steps that collectively create a significant positive change, the Video Competition served as a platform for students to engage with a critical issue of drug abuse and spread awareness through the power of visual storytelling.
