Shimla, Nov 22, BJP State Media In-charge Karan Nanda accused the Congress government of suppressing press freedom, referring to an incident involving the Chief Minister’s media advisor. Nanda expressed concern over a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing the media advisor misbehaving with a journalist attempting to question him about government matters.
Nanda criticized the advisor’s behavior, stating, “If a journalist asks questions, leaders should respond respectfully rather than attempting to silence them or dismiss them from their office.”
The BJP leader also raised questions about the government’s silence on recent legal decisions related to the Tourism Department, particularly concerning the Wild Flower Hall hotel. He alleged that the government’s reluctance to address these issues and its treatment of journalists seeking answers reflect an anti-media stance.
Nanda further claimed that the Congress government consistently attempts to intimidate media institutions whenever unfavorable news emerges, labeling this behavior as an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy. He stated, “Journalists act as a bridge between the public and leaders. By attempting to break this bridge, the Congress government reveals its disdain for transparency and accountability.”
Referring to the incident in the assembly where BJP MLA Randhir Sharma raised concerns about media freedom, Nanda criticized the Chief Minister for his lack of response. He concluded, “The Congress government’s actions are anti-media and reveal its inability to face the truth. The BJP strongly condemns such attempts to suppress the voice of journalists.”
