Chandigarh, December 2 – Haryana Cooperation Minister, Dr. Arvind Sharma inaugurated the 2024-25 sugarcane crushing season at Ch. Devi Lal Cooperative Sugar Mill, Gohana, in Sonipat. Extending his best wishes to the farmers, the Minister stated that the government is taking significant steps to make sugarcane farmers self-reliant. For this, he said that the smooth operation of sugar mills is essential and requires innovative approaches and consistent efforts.To increase the income of sugarcane producers, ethanol plants are being set up in all sugar mills of Haryana, with implementation already underway.
Dr. Sharma directed officers to reduce the payment timeline for sugarcane farmers to one week, so that farmers can benefit financially sooner. He also directed them to connect old sugarcane farmers of this area with the mill. Addressing the water scarcity in Gohana and Baroda, he reassured farmers of his continued efforts to ensure adequate water supply for better crop yields.
He stated that Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi and Chief Minister, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini is committed to the welfare of the farmers', introducing numerous welfare schemes. Haryana is the leading state in the country where the government is procuring 24 crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), he added.
Top sugarcane suppliers of season 2023-24 Honored
During the inauguration, Dr. Sharma honoured the top sugarcane suppliers of the 2023-24 season. Pawan, son of Tekram from Mundlana village, was recognized for supplying the highest quantity of sugarcane at the mill gate (16,582 quintals). Darshan, son of Ramkishan from Bhainswal Mithan village, was also felicitated for delivering the highest sugarcane quantity (4,328 quintals) at the procurement center.
