Chandigarh, 11th February, 2025 – In an effort to promote road safety awareness, the Chandigarh Traffic Police, gave special traffic awareness sessions for the students of various schools and college. The events were conducted under the leadership of Sh. Surendra Singh Yadav, Director General of Police, Sh. Sumer Partap Singh, SSP/Security & Traffic, with supervision of Sh. Lakshay Pandey, DSP/Road Safety & Development.

Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector, I/C CTP, along with awareness team of Chandigarh Traffic Police, engaged over 40 students & teachers from GSSS Palhori, Distt, Sirmour, HP who had visited at Children Traffic Park, Sector-23, Chandigarh under road safety campaign organized by Directorate of Education, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. The school team also visited at PCCC, Sector-17, Chandigarh for educational purpose. The awareness initiative was well supported by Mr. Vipin kumar, Smt. Chandrkala, Mr. Yadender kumar of GSSS Palhori, Sirmour, HP. The students were encouraged to share the knowledge they gained with their families and friends, promoting a culture of responsible driving within the community.

Subsequently, an awareness session was also conducted at SGGS College, Sector-26, Chandigarh with support of college Principal – Ms. Ravneet Kaur, Coordinators – Ms. Nisha, Ms. Gurvinder Kaur, HOD- Shalini Bajaj. About 110 students and teachers of college were apprised of important traffic rules and regulations. A road safety pledge was also administered among the participants. To reinforce the importance of road safety, a pledge was administered, followed by a road safety quiz. The top-performing students - Riya Verma & Bir Davinder singh were awarded with trophies.

In addition to above, the pre-primary students of Tender Heart High School, Sector-33, Chandigarh visited for an educational /awareness trip at Children Traffic Park, Chandigarh. The visit was organized with the purpose of introducing them to basic road safety rules. Dr. Parvesh Sharma, Inspector and I/C-CTP along with other staff educated over 85 students of grade-II and teachers and supporting staff of the school were they made aware of important road signs & signals and basic road safety rules.

The session emphasized the importance of road safety, highlighting safe road practices for the community, especially for younger audiences. The session focused on essential traffic rules, parking practices, and the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, wearing BIS standard ISI Helmet, including giving way to ambulances and other emergency vehicles. The significance of road signs and the importance of following them properly were explained. The session also covered the topics such as the legal age for obtaining driving licenses, penalties for underage driving, and the significance of becoming a Good Samaritan in emergency situations.

Chandigarh Traffic Police has been consistently organizing various initiatives to promote road safety and instill a culture of responsible driving and pedestrian practices across the city.
