MAHENDERGARH, 20.02.25-The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of the Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh successfully organized a National Symposium on Intellectual Property Rights on Thursday. The symposium aimed to create awareness about intellectual property rights (IPR) and equip participants with insights on innovation, patents, and copyright, fostering a culture of research and innovation in academia.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of intellectual property in driving holistic development. He encouraged researchers and faculty to prioritize patents and copyrights in their academic pursuits, stating that innovation is a modern way to serve society. He proudly highlighted CUH’s remarkable achievement of filing over 160 patents, with 60 patents already granted, under his leadership. This, he said, was a reflection of the university’s strong commitment to research excellence and societal contribution.
The symposium featured two distinguished guest speakers who shared their expertise. Dr. Rahul Taneja from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Haryana, delivered an engaging talk on the overview of intellectual property rights. He explained the concept, utility, types, and applications of intellectual property rights in the modern research landscape. Dr. Taneja’s session inspired the audience to explore new avenues for innovation and highlighted the critical role of IPR in advancing societal progress.
The second speaker, Dr. Shikha Rastogi, Senior Principal Scientist at the Innovation Protection Unit of CSIR and a Registered Patent Agent under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, captivated the audience with her presentation on preparing and drafting patent applications. Drawing from her extensive experience since 2005, Dr. Rastogi provided practical guidance on patent drafting, filing, and management, which was particularly valuable for researchers and first-time patent applicants.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Neelam Sangwan, who warmly greeted the dignitaries, invited speakers, faculty members, and participants. She highlighted the growing relevance of intellectual property rights in academia and research, emphasizing the need to align with national and global trends in protecting intellectual work. Prof. Sangwan underscored the university’s dedication to nurturing innovation and thanked the Vice-Chancellor, IPR Cell members, and organizing committee for their unwavering support in promoting intellectual property awareness.
Prof. Vikas Beniwal, Chairman of the IPR Cell, provided an overview of the symposium and emphasized the pivotal role of intellectual property rights in shaping the future of research and development. He lauded CUH’s efforts to empower its researchers and innovators, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to intellectual property creation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Harish Kumar, who expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, invited speakers, and organizing committee for their contributions. The symposium concluded with the national anthem.
