CHANDIGARH, 27.01.25-The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, celebrated Republic Day in three of its assigned villages, viz. Attawa, Badheri and Maloya. The chain of events began with a lecture, on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's ideology of citizenship, liberty, and equality as the tenets of democracy, at Government Model Secondary School, Maloya. The talk was delivered by Dr. Anita. In another event at village Attawa, the UBA volunteers interacted with the children at the Anganwadi, sang patriotic songs, raised the slogan of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and distributed sweets among them. At village Badheri, an interactive session was held at Government Model High School wherein Dr. Ramandeep Kaur apprised them of the various chapters of the Indian Constitution. The resource person concluded with a quiz.
The Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club of the college, under the aegis of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, marked the Republic Day with a pledge-taking ceremony against drug abuse. The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction among youth and encourage collective action to combat the menace. The ceremony took place in the hostel campus, inspiring the young women to make a firm commitment to promoting a drug-free life and contributing to a healthier society. The event fostered a sense of responsibility and solidarity among the students, urging them to work toward the vision of a drug-free India.

Officiating Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan wished everyone on this occasion, and commended the students for their active participation in endeavours that celebrate our great nation. She emphasised the importance of such initiatives in shaping a progressive and responsible youth community. Ms. Mahajan encouraged the students to join similar drives in larger numbers and serve as role models in their communities by spreading the message of a drug-free lifestyle.
