MAHENDERGARH, 27.01.25-The Department of Microbiology, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh hosted the 17th Global Initiative on Academic Network (GIAN) program on "Tools and Techniques for Life Cycle Analysis of Biofuels" at CUH This prestigious five-day workshop, scheduled from January 27 to January 31, 2025, brought together leading global experts, researchers, academicians, and students to explore innovative strategies for advancing biofuels through life cycle analysis (LCA) techniques a critical tool for assessing the environmental impact of biofuels throughout their production and use.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar shared best wishes for the programme and stated that evaluating factors such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and resource utilization, LCA provides a holistic perspective on the sustainability of biofuels. This initiative aligns with India’s renewable energy goals and supports the global vision for sustainable energy solutions.
Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Dean research stated that the GIAN program aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing a platform for knowledge sharing and skill development. Prof. Suneel Kumar, Registrar also congratulated the department for organization of the programme
The inaugural session commenced with the ceremonial lamp lighting and university’s Kulgeet (anthem). This was followed by a heartfelt welcome address by Prof. Vikas Beniwal, who emphasized the university’s commitment to empowering future scientists and researchers in the field of renewable energy. Prof. Surender Singh, the course coordinator provided an overview of the program, emphasizing the critical role of life cycle analysis in ensuring the sustainable production and utilization of biofuels. He highlighted the workshop’s objective of equipping participants with the tools and knowledge needed to optimize biofuel production processes while addressing global environmental challenges.
The esteemed guest faculty, Prof. Gerfried Jungmeier, an internationally renowned expert in biofuels and sustainability from Austria. His expertise in life cycle assessment and his global perspective on the biofuels industry added immense value to the program. The Chief Guest, Prof. Dinesh Kumar Gupta, Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciences (SIAS) at CUH, in his keynote address, underscored the importance of integrating life cycle analysis into biofuel research. He addressed that India’s renewable energy future depends on how efficiently we can utilize biofuels while minimizing their environmental impact. Programs like GIAN provide a platform to explore sustainable solutions and develop skilled professionals in this critical area.
The session concluded with a formal felicitation of the guests, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Gunjan Goel, who acknowledged the contributions of the dignitaries, faculty, participants, IIT, Hyderabad and Ministry of Education. On this occasion HoDs, faculty members and students from various departments were also present.
