Chandigarh,14.02.25-World Radio Day recognised by UNESCO in 2011 is celebrated annually on February 13 and this year’s observance focused on the vital role radio plays in raising awareness about environmental challenges. The PRCI event successfully brought together communication professionals, students, and media personnel to reflect on radio’s transformative role in society.
The Chandigarh Chapter of the The Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) observed World Radio Day at the Chandigarh Press Club, here today which was well attended by radio lovers across the tricity. The event was aimed at celebrating the power of radio, featured an insightful session with veteran radio professionals from All India Radio, who shared their experiences and insights into the evolution of radio broadcasting over the years.
The speakers discussed how radio has remained a powerful medium for mass communication, connecting people across regions and cultures.
In his welcome address, Charanjit Singh informed about the history of World Radio Day stating that UNESCO proclaimed it in 2011 and was first celebrated in 2012. This day reminds of the resilience of the medium in connecting communities.
Mr Vivek Atray, former IAS officer, author and TEDex speaker while lauding the importance of radio said that Radio provides platform for promoting dialogue across cultures and acts as a reliable source of information in emergencies apart from continuously informing , educating and entertaining masses.
Noted RJ Hardeep Singh Chandpuri in his deliverable shared his experiences about how he became interested in the power of the medium and getting exposure in USA Canada and Australia, launched Radio Buzz in Chandigarh in 2002 revolutionizing the radio scene in North India.
Present on the occasion, Dr Rupesh Singh Chairman Chandigarh chapter while explaining about PRCI, highlighted the power of radio in connecting hearts worldwide.
The remarkable feature of the event was the felicitation of veteran radio stalwarts for their tireless service to the medium which includes Capt Amrik Singh, PJS Trehan, Amarjeet Narang, GC Bhardwaj, Pritam Singh Rupal, Ms Sarita Mohan and Deepak Vohra.
Special award was announced for Ojaswwee Sharma for his film 'Rabb Di Awaaz' which is dedicated to Radio as a medium of communication and RJ Abhinav Sharma for his role of RJ in the film.

highlighted the significance of radio in addressing crucial issues, such as climate change, with this year’s theme, "Radio and Climate Change." She added that let the power of Radio inspire solutions for climate change and peace.
