City Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla reviews Chhath Puja preparations at Sector 42 Lake, assures full support to Purvanchal community

Chandigarh, October 13:-City Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla visited the New Lake in Sector 42 to review the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Chhath Puja festival, one of the most significant religious events for the Purvanchal community. The Mayor was accompanied by Executive Engineers from the Public Health Wing of Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation.

During the inspection, officials briefed the Mayor about the extensive cleanliness drive in the area. This included grass cutting, cleaning and filling of the lake with clean water, repairs of seating arrangements, installation of proper lighting, provision of dustbins, and ensuring well-lit and clean parking areas for devotees.

Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla assured the community that all necessary arrangements are being made to facilitate the smooth and respectful observance of Chhath Puja. “The Purvanchal community forms an integral part of Chandigarh’s social fabric. We are committed to extending all required support to ensure they can celebrate their festival with full faith and dignity,” she stated.

She directed the officials to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the site during the festival, provision of mobile toilets, drinking water, and adequate security arrangements. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety throughout the celebration period.

The Mayor further stated that the Municipal Corporation stands united with the Purvanchal community and all communities in their cultural and religious observances, and will continue to ensure inclusive and citizen-friendly governance across Chandigarh.

MC Chandigarh to receives 1.70 crore bid as revenue from roundabout maintenance via advertisement model

Chandigarh, October 13:-In a significant step towards sustainable urban maintenance, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has initiated a revenue-based model for the upkeep of city roundabouts and park fountains. Under this model, agencies have submitted bids for 5 round abouts having revenue of Rs. 1.70 crore for two years. The bids were invited to maintain the infrastructure in exchange for advertising rights and licensing fee, as per the Advertisement Control Order.

While sharing about this development, city Mayor Smt. Harpreet Kaur Babla said here today thst out of approximately 35 roundabouts across the city, bids were received for maintenance, and three agencies have been found viable for five key roundabouts. These include Junction No. 27 (Sectors 17/18/21/22), Junction No. 8 (Sectors 2/3/10/11), Junction No. 11 (Sectors 5/6/7/8), Junction No. 28 (Sectors 18/19/20/21), and the small roundabout on V-4 Road, Sector 10. She said that the Municipal Corporation will generate revenue of ₹1.70 crore from advertisement and license fees over a two-year period from these five sites alone.

She said that the remaining 30 roundabouts are also in the pipeline under the same model. “This initiative will not only ensure the beautification and upkeep of public spaces but will also bring non-tax revenue to the Corporation,” she said.

In addition, 52 fountains located in various city parks are also being brought under the same revenue-sharing model. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to innovative urban governance and self-sustaining public space management, the Mayor said.
