CHANDIGARH, 08.11.25-Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, Chief Advisor of the Federation of Sector Welfare Association Chandigarh (FOSWAC), has welcomed the recent order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court addressing the alarming rise in dog bite incidents across the country. The Court has directed that all educational institutions, hospitals, public sports complexes, bus stands, depots, and railway stations must be properly fenced to prevent the entry of stray dogs. Local self-government institutions have been made responsible for removing stray dogs from such areas and relocating them to designated shelters after due sterilisation and vaccination.
Mr. Panchhi urged the Chief Secretary of the Chandigarh Administration to issue necessary directions to the concerned departments of the Administration and the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, for the prompt implementation of the Hon’ble Court’s orders. He emphasized that the Court has rightly addressed the growing public safety concerns arising from stray dog attacks and road accidents caused by stray animals. Timely and effective action, he added, will bring much-needed relief to the residents of Chandigarh. Mr. Panchhi further stated that the menace of stray dog bites is not merely a public health issue but a serious matter of human safety and civic responsibility.
