Chandigarh, November 11:- Aimed to promote awareness on waste segregation, home composting, and sustainable waste management practices among students and staff, a Swachhata ki Karyashala was organized today at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 23-A, Chandigarh, under the aegis of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh. The event was also attended by Dr. Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health, MCC, along with the school principal, senior MCC officers, teachers, and students.
A live demonstration on segregation of waste at source and home composting techniques was conducted to educate participants on simple and practical methods for managing household waste. Students actively participated in the session and pledged to implement waste segregation in their homes and school premises.
Addressing the students, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and segregating waste at the source. He stated, “True Swachhata begins at home. Each citizen must take responsibility to separate wet and dry waste, practice home composting, and contribute towards a cleaner and greener Chandigarh. The Municipal Corporation is committed to supporting such initiatives that foster community participation and sustainable urban living.”
The session concluded with a vote of thanks to MCC officials and the school authorities for their active support in spreading the message of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among young citizens.
