Chandigarh, February 12, 2026:A press meet regarding “Divya Kala Mela – A Mega Exhibition-cum-Fair for Promoting Art/Skills of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)” was held today at U.T. Guest House, Sector-6, Chandigarh. The press meet was chaired by Shri Anil Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), who shared details about the upcoming Divya Kala Mela to be organised from 13th to 21st February 2026 at Sector-34 Ground (Opposite Gurudwara Sahib), Chandigarh. He highlighted that the Mela will provide a national platform to nearly 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from around 20 States/UTs to showcase their products, promote inclusive entrepreneurship and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, is organising this unique exhibition-cum-fair, with the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), an apex corporation under DEPwD, serving as the nodal agency. The event aims to showcase the products, skills and craftsmanship of Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans from across the country.
Over the past three years, 28 Divya Kala Melas organised across India have played a significant role in showcasing the country’s cultural diversity, promoting local economies and fostering community engagement. These Melas have created substantial market opportunities for Divyangjan artisans and entrepreneurs, resulting in total business exceeding ₹23 crore.
The Divya Kala Mela will offer visitors an enthralling experience with a wide array of vibrant products, including handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery works, packaged and organic food items, home décor and lifestyle products, clothing, stationery and eco-friendly items, toys and gifts, personal accessories, jewellery and clutch bags.
Apart from providing a marketing platform, the Mela will also sensitise visitors towards disability issues through dedicated experience zones, disability sports, art exhibitions and interactive displays. The programme highlights the abilities, talent and entrepreneurial spirit of Divyangjan artisans, artists and entrepreneurs.
The nine-day Mela will remain open daily from 11:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Visitors will also witness a series of cultural programmes featuring performances by Divyang artists along with renowned professionals. A special cultural programme titled “Divya Kala Shakti” will be presented on 21st February 2026 by Divyang artists from different parts of the country. Food stalls offering cuisines from various regions will also be part of the event.
The event will be formally inaugurated on 14th February 2026 at 11:00 A.M. by the Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Several other dignitaries will also grace the occasion.
The Divya Kala Mela is envisioned as a nationwide initiative to promote inclusivity, entrepreneurship and empowerment of Divyangjan. The Chandigarh edition will also feature experience zones for different disabilities, startups led by Divyangjan and displays of new aids and assistive appliances, making it a vibrant and inclusive celebration of ability and talent.
