Chandigarh, March 31:- In a focused effort to ensure better care and management of animals, Municipal Commissioner Sh. Amit Kumar, IAS today conducted a detailed inspection of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Sector-38, Chandigarh, along with Sh. Pardeep Kumar, IAS, Special Commissioner MC-cum-Secretary, Animal Husbandry, UT Chandigarh. The visit was attended by officials of the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation, and members of the SPCA Sh. Satinder Singh Sidhu, MC Councillor and other members.

The inspection was aimed at reviewing the recent improvements at the facility and assessing the upkeep, treatment, and overall living conditions of the dogs housed there.

During the visit, the Commissioner stressed that the highest standards of animal care and welfare must be maintained at all times. He thoroughly reviewed arrangements related to feeding, nutrition, availability of medicines, and medical treatment being provided to the animals, and directed officials to ensure that proper stock registers of food, medicines, and other essential items are maintained and updated regularly.

Emphasizing transparency and accountability, the Commissioner directed that biometric attendance be made mandatory for all staff and instructed that the system be installed at the earliest. He also reviewed CCTV footage at the facility and underscored the importance of maintaining all records in a systematic and computerized manner for better monitoring.

Reiterating the need for efficiency, the Commissioner directed that all works related to the SPCA be executed in a time-bound manner to further strengthen management practices and improve the overall welfare of animals.
