Chandigarh, August 13:- Chandigarh Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi today laid the foundation stone for a ₹31 lakh storm water drainage project at the backside of the Showroom Market and parking area near the Public Toilet Block in Sector 37, Chandigarh.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was held in the presence of Sh. Yogesh Dhingra, Area Councillor, and other prominent persons of the area.
Under the project, 600 mm (24-inch) and 450 mm (18-inch) internal diameter RCC NP-2 pipes will be provided and laid to strengthen the existing storm water drainage network in the area.
The new drainage infrastructure will facilitate efficient disposal of rainwater, improve drainage during the monsoon and help minimise water accumulation around the Showroom Market and parking area.
The total estimated cost of the work is ₹31 lakh. The Municipal Corporation is undertaking the project to strengthen civic infrastructure and provide improved drainage facilities to residents, shopkeepers and visitors.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Sh. Saurabh Joshi said that strengthening storm water drainage infrastructure is a priority of the Municipal Corporation, particularly in areas experiencing heavy water flow during rainfall. He said that such infrastructure works would make Chandigarh’s civic services more efficient and responsive to citizens’ needs.
The Mayor also directed that the date of laying the foundation stone and the stipulated timeline for completion of the work be clearly mentioned on the project plaque. He said that this would ensure transparency and enable citizens to know the commencement date and expected completion schedule of the project.
