CHANDIGARH, 28.08.26-Kamaljit Singh Panchhi, President of the Chandigarh Traders Association (Regd.), Sector 17, met Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh, submitted a representation proposing the constitution of a Municipal Corporation Advisory Committee on the lines of the existing Administrator’s Advisory Council. Panchhi proposed that the committee be headed by the Hon’ble Mayor, with the Secretary, Local Bodies; Commissioner, Municipal Corporation; senior officers; and elected Councillors as members. He further suggested including two representatives each from Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, Chandigarh Traders Association, FOSWAC, Crawford, Industrial Associations and prominent social organisations, ensuring broader public participation and representation of key stakeholders.
The proposed committee would provide a regular platform for meaningful and result-oriented deliberations on important civic issues, including cleanliness and sanitation, waste management, parking, encroachments, parks and green belts, traffic management, public amenities, beautification, street lighting, drainage and civic infrastructure.
Panchhi said the initiative would promote greater coordination between the Municipal Corporation and citizens, strengthen civic administration, and help preserve Chandigarh’s unique identity as a planned, clean and beautiful city, while improving the overall quality of urban life. The Hon’ble Administrator gave a patient hearing to the proposal and assured that it would be examined and appropriate action taken at the earliest.
