Chandigarh, 18.09.26-: Chandigarh is all set to host an exciting showcase of wheelchair cricket, bringing together the thrill of the game along with determination, passion and courage. On September 19, three exciting T20 matches will be played between the wheelchair cricket teams of Punjab and Chandigarh at the DAV College Sports Ground, Sector 10, Chandigarh. The one-day tournament has generated considerable enthusiasm among both players and sports enthusiasts.
The special tournament is being organized by the Wheelchair Cricket Association Chandigarh (Tricity) with the objective of providing differently-abled cricket players with a strong platform to showcase their talent, abilities and sporting skills. DAV College, Sector 10 is the official sponsor of the historic sporting event.
Governor Releases Official Logo and Tournament Poster
As part of the tournament preparations, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria unveiled the official logo of the Wheelchair Cricket Association Chandigarh and the tournament poster. Mr. Kataria will attend the sporting event as the Chief Guest on September 19 and encourage the participating players.
Wheelchair Cricket is a Symbol of Courage, Not Just a Sport
Association President Dr. Rupesh Kumar Singh said that wheelchair cricket is an important platform for highlighting the talent and strong confidence of players. He said physical challenges cannot become a barrier to a player’s passion and goals. By stepping onto the field and showcasing their skills, these players are sending a powerful message that when the right opportunities and platforms are provided, talent knows no limitations.
He said the tournament is an effort to promote an inclusive sporting culture, equal opportunities and greater respect for differently-abled athletes. Along with providing players with a better platform, the Association is committed to encouraging them to establish their identity at higher levels of the sport in the future.
Appeal to Sports Lovers Across Tricity
Association office-bearers appealed to sports enthusiasts from Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali and the entire Tricity to reach the DAV College Ground in large numbers and encourage the participating players. They said spectators will get an opportunity not only to witness the excitement of wheelchair cricket but also to experience the extraordinary courage and dedication of the players from close quarters.
They added that the applause and support of the spectators will provide additional energy to the players and play an important role in making the event memorable.
On the occasion, Association Vice President Deepak Kumar Sharma, General Secretary Kamaljit Singh, Treasurer Narendra Kumar, Health Advisor Dr. H.K. Bali, Financial Advisor Pramod Bindal, Legal Advisor Advocate Sanjeev Sharma, Media Advisor Surinder Goel, and Executive Committee members Munish Sharda, Sarvpriya Nirmohi and Gautam Sharma were present.
