Students Explore Biodiversity Along Chandigarh’s Lake Trail
Chandigarh, 31 October 2026: Students and teachers of GMSSS RC-1, Maloya, and GMSSS Sector 39 participated in a nature interpretation programme organised by the Department of Forests & Wildlife, U.T. Chandigarh, at the Lake Trail today.
Led by Range Officer Sh. Bhupinder Singh and departmental field staff, the walk introduced participants to the interconnected roles of trees, undergrowth, birds, insects, soil and water in sustaining a healthy ecosystem.
Students learnt about habitat protection and the importance of undisturbed spaces for wildlife within an urban setting. They were encouraged to observe nature patiently, avoid littering and refrain from damaging vegetation or disturbing wildlife.
Building on its recent Butterfly Park programme, the Department is organising visits tailored to the ecological features of different natural areas. The initiative aims to deepen young citizens’ understanding of Chandigarh’s biodiversity and encourage responsible stewardship of its natural heritage.
