CHANDIGARH, 05.11.24-The Eco Club 'Parivesh' and NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat (EBSB) Club, and under the directions of Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, organised an Anti-Cracker Campaign. The objective was to promote an eco-friendly and pollution-free festive season. Under this campaign, a plethora of activities were conducted that raised awareness about the harmful effects of firecrackers and encouraged sustainable practices. The program commenced with a thought-provoking nukkad natak performance by NSS volunteers where they highlighted the impact of burning crackers on environment and society as a whole. It was followed by an oath taking ceremony where faculty members joined the volunteers in taking a pledge for cracker free festivities. Thereafter, the students formed human chain outside college campus and promoted the message of cracker free festivities. They also conducted anti-cracker rally outside the college campus, visiting residential areas and market places to educate the public about the adverse impacts of firecrackers on the environment and human health. Eco-friendly celebration of Diwali with diyas, candles, and flower-based decorations was promoted.
Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan commended the efforts of concerned committees, acknowledging their initiatives aimed at inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment. She added that the college’s Anti-cracker campaign demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility and environmental conservation.
