CHANDIGARH, 24.03.25-The Department of Botany and Add-on Course in Floriculture and Landscaping organised ‘Nurture Nature’- a DST sponsored 2-day sustainability, skill cum entrepreneurship based hands-on workshop in Botanical Garden and Nature Park Sarangpur. The workshop was conducted by Maj Gen C.S. Bewli, President of Cactus and Succulent Society of India, and the President of Bonsai Society of Chandigarh. During the first session on day one of the workshop, the students visited the Bonsai Home wherein they were familiarised with different types of Bonsai and the plant species suitable for creating the same. This was then followed by a demonstration and hands-on session on creating Bonsai in the Nursery area in the second half. The second day commenced with the visit to the Cactus house where the students were introduced to the types, and habit of the cacti and succulents. In the concluding session, the students were trained on cacti and succulent propagating techniques including preparation of soil mixes, and selection of suitable species for grafting. This skill development and environmentally friendly activity was a huge success and highly appreciated by the students.

Officiating Principal Ms. Suman Mahajan, while reinforcing the importance of such workshops, said that skill enhancement is the key to success in today’s competitive environment.
