CHANDIGARH, 09.11.22-Dr Jitendra Kumar Sahu was awarded the first-time prestigious Dr Ashok Panagariya Young Neuroscientist Award by the Indian Academy of neurology. Dr Sahu is a Professor at Pediatric Neurology Unit, Advanced Paediatric Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh. This annual award was instituted by the Indian Academy of Neurology which is a prime organization of the neurologists in India. This annual award is started in memory of Padma Shree Dr Ashok Panagariya, who was a top neurologist of India and DM alumnus of Department of Neurology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. He lost his life due because of COVID 19 in 2021. Shri Arvind Panagariya, brother of late Dr Ashok Panagariya, former Vice Chairman of National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog and currently a Professor at Columbia University, was present to honour the awardee. The award recognizes a young neurologist who has made a highly significant research contribution in the field of Neurology. The award carries a cash prize of one lac rupees and awardee is selected by a committee of senior neurologists. The award was conferred during the 29th Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Neurology AOCN-IANCON 2022 held in New Delhi.
